Job Title: Manager, Human Resources and Labour Relations
Location: Kanata, Ontario
Salary Range: $86,710 – $97,648
About the Role:
This is an exciting opportunity to join a mission-driven organization as the Manager of Human Resources and Labour Relations. The role is a key member of the management team, responsible for shaping people practices, fostering a positive workplace culture, and leading labour relations in a unionized environment. The position is on-site five days per week.
HR Leadership & Strategy
- Partner with leadership to develop and implement HR strategies that support organizational goals and enhance employee experience.
- Modernize employee lifecycle processes, including recruitment, onboarding, engagement, and retention.
- Advise on policy, compliance, and HR best practices.
- Provide guidance on collective agreement interpretation, administration, grievances, and arbitration.
- Lead and support negotiations and collective bargaining processes.
- Collaborate with union representatives and managers to maintain positive labour-management relations.
- Lead recruitment for key roles and develop succession pipelines.
- Oversee onboarding and orientation programs.
- Design and manage employee programs that foster engagement, equity, and inclusion.
- Monitor trends in compensation, benefits, and total rewards programs.
- Coach and support managers on performance management, disciplinary matters, and employee development.
- Conduct investigations, manage grievance processes, and provide conflict resolution guidance.
- Ensure HR practices comply with legislation and collective agreements.
- University degree in Business Administration, Human Resources, Industrial Relations, Social Sciences, or related field.
- Certified Human Resources Professional designation (CHRP, CHRL, or equivalent).
- 5–10 years of progressive HR experience in a unionized environment; non-profit experience preferred.
- Strong knowledge of labour relations, collective bargaining, arbitration, and grievance management.
- Proven ability to lead diverse teams and foster an inclusive workplace culture.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
- HRIS experience (e.g., Dayforce) is an asset.
- Fluency in English;
French is an asset.
- Lead HR and labour relations in a collaborative, mission-driven environment.
