Description

Position Summary:

The Training and Development Specialist is responsible for coordinating, tracking, and improving employee training, development, and credentialing processes across the agency. This position helps ensure employees receive required training, leaders have tools to support team development, and credentialing requirements are completed timely and accurately.

In a government-funded mental health center, this role plays a critical part in workforce readiness, compliance, quality of care, and audit preparedness. The position works closely with HR, clinical leadership, operations, compliance, and external credentialing or payer partners to support agency requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities Training and Development
  • Coordinate agency-wide training programs, including new hire training, annual required training, compliance training, leadership training, and role-specific training.
  • Maintain a training calendar and communicate training expectations to employees and leaders.
  • Track employee training completion and follow up on overdue requirements.
  • Support development and maintenance of job-specific training plans.
  • Partner with leaders to identify training gaps and recommend solutions.
  • Assist with creating training materials, checklists, guides, and standard operating procedures.
  • Support leadership development, supervisor training, and employee development initiatives.
  • Maintain training records in the HRIS, LMS, or other tracking systems.
New Hire Training and Role Readiness
  • Coordinate new hire orientation and required early employment training.
  • Work with department leaders to ensure new employees have role-specific training plans.
  • Track completion of onboarding training and communicate gaps to leaders.
  • Help ensure training plans align with job descriptions, program expectations, and funding requirements.
Credentialing
  • Coordinate credentialing and re-credentialing processes for applicable providers, clinicians, and other positions requiring payer, licensing, certification, or regulatory approval.
  • Collect, review, and maintain credentialing documentation, including licenses, certifications, education, work history, background information, malpractice coverage if applicable, and other required materials.
  • Track credentialing expiration dates and ensure timely renewals.
  • Communicate with employees, leaders, payers, and external credentialing partners regarding missing or updated documentation.
  • Maintain credentialing files in an organized and audit‑ready manner.
  • Support credentialing audits and reporting needs.
  • Partner with leadership to identify credentialing gaps and recommend corrective action plans.
  • Ensure credentialing processes are completed with attention to accuracy, timeliness, and confidentiality.
Compliance and Reporting
  • Support compliance with agency, state, federal, payer, licensing, and grant‑funded training requirements.
  • Prepare training and credentialing reports for leadership, audits, and compliance reviews.
  • Monitor required certifications, licenses, background checks, and other role‑specific requirements.
  • Assist with policy and procedure updates related to training, credentialing, and employee development.
  • Maintain confidentiality of employee and provider information.
Process Improvement
  • Recommend improvements to training, credentialing, and tracking processes.
  • Help move paper‑based or manual training processes into electronic systems where possible.
  • Support standardization of training plans across departments.
  • Assist with evaluating training effectiveness and employee readiness.
Requirements

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Education, Healthcare Administration, Psychology, Social Work, Business, or related field preferred.
  • Two or more years of experience in training coordination, HR, credentialing, healthcare administration, compliance, or related field preferred.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to track deadlines and manage multiple priorities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidential and sensitive information.
