About the position

Reporting to the Manager, Talent Acquisition, the Talent Acquisition Specialist plays an essential role in sourcing, attracting, and hiring exceptional talent to drive the growth and success of Canadian North. In this role, you'll partner with hiring managers to understand staffing needs, develop recruitment strategies, and ensure a smooth and efficient hiring process from start to finish. Focus will also include Inuit recruitment.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Must be able to perform, but not be limited to, the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Contribute to HR initiatives, supporting the achievement of strategic goals and the delivery of day-to-day HR services.
  • Design and execute innovative recruitment strategies to engage top talent through various channels, such as direct sourcing, networking, online job boards, social media, job postings, employee referrals, and professional networks.
  • Review resumes and assess candidates to ensure they meet job requirements and align with the company culture.
  • Create innovative recruitment plans/activities to attract Inuit candidates
  • Conduct interviews and skill assessments to evaluate candidates' qualifications and suitability for specific roles.
  • Collaborate with hiring managers to extend job offers and negotiate compensation and employment terms in line with company policies and collective agreements.
  • Work with HR and hiring managers to ensure a seamless onboarding process, including offer letters, reference checks, and pre-employment details.
  • Participate in onboarding sessions for new employees.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date candidate records, recruitment activities, and metrics using the Applicant Tracking System (ATS) and other recruitment tools.
  • Contribute to employer branding initiatives to enhance the company’s reputation as an employer of choice by participating in recruitment events, career fairs, and developing partnerships with community organizations and educational institutions.
  • Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and emerging recruitment technologies, offering recommendations for process improvements.
  • Support various HR-related projects as needed.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

SKILLS AND

QUALIFICATIONS:

Include, but not limited to, the following minimum skills and qualifications:

  • Education in Human Resources, Business Administration, or a related field (or equivalent work experience)
  • A minimum of 3 years of proven experience in a Talent Acquisition role or similar, in a fast-paced environment with a focus on Inuit hiring initiatives
  • Strong knowledge of recruitment best practices, sourcing techniques, and candidate assessment methods
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills, with the ability to build relationships and collaborate effectively with hiring managers and candidates
  • Experience working in a unionized setting a definite asset
