What you ll do
  • Oversee the complete payroll cycle, ensuring timely and accurate processing of employee compensation, including salaries, bonuses, and deductions.
  • Maintain and update payroll records, ensuring compliance with federal, provincial, and local regulations.
  • Collaborate with HR to manage employee onboarding and offboarding processes, ensuring all payroll-related documentation is accurately completed.
  • Respond to employee inquiries regarding payroll, benefits, and deductions, providing clear and concise information.
  • Prepare and distribute payroll reports for management, highlighting key metrics and trends.
  • Conduct regular audits of payroll data to identify discrepancies and implement corrective measures as necessary.
  • Stay informed about changes in payroll legislation and best practices, making recommendations for improvements to payroll processes.
  • Assist in the preparation of year-end payroll reports, including T4s and other necessary documentation for tax purposes.
  • Work closely with finance and accounting teams to ensure payroll expenses are accurately reflected in financial statements.
  • Implement and maintain payroll software systems, ensuring they are up-to-date and functioning effectively.
  • Participate in payroll-related projects and initiatives aimed at improving efficiency and employee experience.
  • Provide training and support to new team members on payroll processes and systems.
Requirements
  • A minimum of 3 years of experience in payroll processing or a related field, preferably in a corporate environment.
  • Strong knowledge of payroll regulations and compliance requirements in Canada.
  • Proficiency in payroll software and systems, with experience in [specific software, if applicable].
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and reporting.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to identify and resolve discrepancies.
  • Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, to interact with employees and management.

  • A degree or diploma in accounting, finance, human resources, or a related field is preferred.
  • Certification in payroll management (e.g., PCP, CPM) is an asset.

  • Familiarity with HRIS systems and their integration with payroll software.
  • Knowledge of benefits administration and related compliance issues.
  • Previous experience in a tech or startup environment.
  • Bilingualism (English and French) is a plus.

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel for data analysis and reporting.
  • Familiarity with payroll software such as ADP, Ceridian, or similar platforms.
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage time effectively.
  • Knowledge of data privacy regulations and best practices in handling sensitive employee information.
