Overview

CPAC is seeking a fluently bilingual Human Resources Generalist to join our team for a 15-month full-time contract based in our downtown Ottawa office.

This is an exciting opportunity to make a meaningful impact by supporting the people, culture, and HR programs that help power CPAC's trusted, non-partisan public affairs journalism. As the HR Generalist, you will play an integral role in supporting employees and leaders and ensuring the delivery of exceptional HR services across the organization.

Summary

The HR Generalist is responsible for providing support to CPAC employees and management in the administration of all HR policies and procedures.

Accountability

Works under the direction of the CEO and works in close partnership with the COO.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • In consultation with the Senior Leadership team, assist in the implementation and administration of HR policies and procedures and ensure that best practices are being followed;
  • Ensure CPAC’s compliance with Canada Labour Code regulations, including coordinating with consultants or industry experts on employment legislation and implementation of new requirements;
  • Develop job descriptions for current and new hires, ensuring that key competencies and duties are identified and expressed in clear, concise language;
  • Manage recruitment of new talent, including drafting job postings, screening potential candidates and sitting on interview boards, in compliance with internal processes;
  • Provide payroll updates to the Finance team;
  • Administer CPAC’s benefits;
  • Manage Health and Safety programs, ensuring all Canada Labour Code regulations are followed, including training and reporting requirements;
  • Provide coaching assistance to managers and employees in employee training, performance management and conflict resolution;
  • Maintain personnel files and organizational charts;
  • Participate in the yearly planning of workforce needs and review;
  • Secure funding for CPAC’s summer student initiative.
Qualifications and Requirements
  • Post-secondary diploma in human resources administration or related field;
  • Five years’ experience, preferably in a federally regulated industry;
  • Familiarity with the Canada Labour Code and Health and Safety statutes and regulations;
  • Must be fluently bilingual (French and English), oral and written;
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including the ability to interact with tact, discretion and judgement at all times;
  • Ability to operate software for word processing, databases, spreadsheets and HRIS systems;
  • Ability to identify and contribute to the development of new ideas and approaches to improve corporate processes and systems;
  • Ability to collect and record relevant information while respecting the provisions of the CPAC Privacy Policies;
  • Ability to create a work environment that recognizes, supports, respects and welcomes the diversity of employees.
