Reporting to the Executive Director, the Food Service Supervisor provides overall leadership and direction for the Food Service Department. The supervisor ensures residents receive safe, nutritious, and high‑quality meals that meet individual dietary needs and promote a positive dining experience. The role complies with regulatory standards, organizational policies, and best practices to support the health, well‑being, and satisfaction of residents. This position involves both office‑based work and active presence in all areas of nutrition and food service operations within the home.
Work hours align to meet the operational requirements of the home. The employee must manage multiple tasks and deadlines in a fast‑paced, team‑oriented setting and interact daily with residents, staff, and visitors, requiring professionalism, patience, and strong communication skills. Infection control, food safety, and occupational health and safety standards are followed at all times.
- Assist the Food Service Manager in planning, organizing, and providing high‑quality dietary services for residents of each facility.
- Apply continuous quality improvement principles, best practices, and standardization to workflow, performance, production, and changes to service and dietary requirements to meet legislative requirements.
- Select, supervise, and motivate dietary staff; ensure they work as a team, achieve a high level of productivity, and better utilize staff capabilities.
- Ensure the environment of all food preparation and storage areas meets public health requirements.
- Maintain all records in accordance with policies, procedures, and legislative requirements, including the implementation and posting of all regular and therapeutic menus.
- Liaise and consult with residents, families, team members, government officials, and professionals regarding resident care needs and department activities.
- Participate in the budgeting process and be accountable for the departmental budget and food costs.
- Current membership with the Canadian Society of Nutritional Management (C.S.N.M.) or the College of Dietitians of Ontario.
- Experience supervising employees in a unionized environment.
- Strong leadership skills to direct the work of employees.
- Superb organizational, time‑management, and multitasking skills.
- Knowledge of occupational health & safety practices, principles, and legislation.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Customer‑focused with a high emphasis on building and maintaining relationships with clients.
- Negative vulnerable sector check completed within six months of hire date.
- Completion of a 2‑step TB skin test within the last 12 months.
