Canada Pork is the domestic and global market intelligence, market access, and promotion organization for the Canadian pork industry. Established in 1991, we represent the interests of our industry members, such as producers, processing plants, trading companies, provincial associations, and other key industries and government organizations, to promote Canadian pork at home and around the world.

With an international footprint, including offices in Canada, Japan, and China, we are continuously working to improve access, awareness, and growth of the Canadian pork industry.

Operating out of our headquarters in Ottawa we are seeking a strategic and hands-on Director of Financial Operations to drive our organization forward.

Position Overview

The Director of Financial Operations will oversee all financial management, accounting, and reporting functions for the organization. Reporting directly to the Chief Operating Officer, you will ensure compliance with non-profit accounting standards, manage diverse funding streams- including government grants and member dues, and provide strategic financial guidance to the leadership team and Board of Directors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Financial Leadership: Develop and implement financial strategies, annual operating budgets, and long-term financial forecasts that align with the organization’s strategic plan.
  • Financial Management & Reporting: Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, cash flow management, payroll, and the preparation of monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements.
  • Grant & Fund Accounting: Manage complex funding structures, including federal and provincial government grants, ensuring strict compliance, tracking, and reporting according to funder requirements.

    Risk Management:

    Ensure adherence to Canadian accounting standards for not-for-profit organizations (ASNPO) and CRA regulations. Coordinate the annual financial audit.
  • Internal Controls: Maintain, evaluate, and strengthen internal control systems, policies, and procedures to safeguard organizational assets.
  • Member Services: Work directly with members to provide guidance and information related to available funding, fees, and claim processing procedures.
  • Board & Stakeholder Relations: Present clear and concise financial reports and analysis to the Board of Directors, Audit & Finance Committee, and internal program directors.
Qualifications
  • Education & Certification: University degree in Finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field. A Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation is required.
  • Experience: A minimum of 3-5 years of progressive financial management experience, with at least 1 years in a leadership role within a Canadian non-profit organization or the agricultural sector.
  • Sector Knowledge: Deep understanding of Canadian non-profit accounting standards (ASNPO), registered charity tax regulations, and government grant reporting mechanisms. Familiarity with Canadian agricultural programs, including Agri Marketing is a strong asset.

    Skills:

    Advanced proficiency in cloud-based accounting software (e.g., Quick Books, Sage, or ERP systems) and Microsoft Excel.
  • Leadership Style: Proven ability to collaborate within and across organizations, manage competing priorities, and communicate complex financial concepts to non-financial stakeholders.
