The Senior Project Manager provides strategic leadership in the planning, development, and delivery of major healthcare infrastructure projects on behalf of CHEO. Initially focused on the Integrated Treatment Centre (ITC) project and supporting future campus redevelopment, laboratory, and specialized healthcare infrastructure initiatives, the Senior Project Manager serves as CHEO's owner representative, ensuring project objectives, operational priorities, stakeholder requirements, and organizational goals are successfully integrated throughout project delivery.

The Senior Project Manager is accountable for overseeing all phases of project delivery, including planning, design, procurement, construction, commissioning, operational readiness, transition, occupancy, and post-occupancy activities. Working within a complex healthcare environment, the incumbent provides leadership and direction to Project Managers, Project Coordinators, external Project Management Consultants, Operational Readiness Consultants, architects, engineers, contractors, commissioning agents, and other specialized advisors to achieve successful project outcomes.

The successful candidate will possess extensive experience leading large-scale healthcare capital projects, exceptional stakeholder engagement skills, and demonstrated success managing complex relationships among clinical, operational, technical, governmental, and external partners. This role requires strong leadership, governance, financial management, risk management, and communication capabilities, together with the ability to navigate competing priorities while delivering project outcomes aligned with CHEO’s strategic objectives.

POSITION DESCRIPTION
  • Accountable for the planning, governance, and delivery of major healthcare infrastructure projects from project initiation through occupancy and post-occupancy evaluation, ensuring alignment with CHEO's strategic, clinical, operational, and long-term campus development priorities.
  • Develop and maintain effective relationships with executive leadership, government stakeholders, regulatory agencies, consultants, contractors, clinical leadership, and external partners to support project success.
  • Lead the identification, assessment, mitigation, escalation, and management of project risks and issues throughout the project lifecycle.
  • Direct and coordinate all phases of project delivery, including planning, design, procurement, construction, operational readiness, commissioning, transition, and occupancy, ensuring effective management of scope, schedule, budget, quality, risk, stakeholder expectations, patient safety, and operational continuity requirements.
  • Support organizational sustainability, energy efficiency, climate resilience, and long-term asset management objectives through project planning and delivery activities.
Team Leadership and Management
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, performance management, and day-to-day direction to Project Managers, Project Coordinators, and other project resources, establishing clear priorities, responsibilities, expectations, and accountability measures.
  • Foster a collaborative and high-performing project delivery culture through coaching, professional development, succession planning, knowledge sharing and continuous improvement.
Owner Representation and Contractor/ Consultant Oversight
  • Serve as CHEO's primary representative for assigned major capital projects, ensuring organizational priorities and project objectives are effectively communicated, integrated, and achieved throughout project delivery.
  • Ensure project planning, design, construction and occupancy activities comply with applicable codes, regulations, approvals, permits, and Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) requirements.
