Job Summary

Community Workers on the community youth program (CYP) team work closely with community houses and local partner organisations in the PQ catchment area. They are responsible for planning and facilitating programmes, after school clubs, drop‑ins, and events for youth of all backgrounds. Community workers act as role models for participants in their programmes. They create a warm, caring, safe, and respectful environment for youth to connect, access resources, and attend programmes without judgement.

This position requires excellent facilitation and time management skills, flexibility, creativity, and a strong ability to connect and form positive relationships with youth.

United Sisters Program

United Sisters is a community-based after school programme for girls/female‑identifying youth, ages 9 to 15. Its goal is to provide a safe, supportive all‑female space for participants to learn, grow, make friends, and develop life skills.

Job Specific Responsibilities

Develop and facilitate workshops and programming that meet the identified needs of the participants.

Provide in‑person programming for youth (occasional virtual programmes may occur); help support other CYP youth programmes when needed.

Lead youth programme activities, including meeting set‑up, snack preparation, and clean‑up.

Assist in developing and implementing opportunities, programmes, special events and services for with their respective Supervisor, to ensure alignment of the mission, values and vision of PQ.

Community Development and Outreach

Effectively carry out outreach activities to community members including identification of needs and interests based on the Centre’s Strategic Plan.

Respect and value the diversity of communities and individuals by working in a manner that incorporates health promotion and recognises the social determinants of health.

Provide linkages with broader community resource base.

Provide practical assistance and internal and external referral services to clients as appropriate.

Create a supportive environment for community members to address barriers they may be experiencing.

Foster ongoing community engagement and capacity‑building.

Build and maintain pertinent community partnerships in conjunction with their supervisor.

Promote/advertise and inform the community on relevant programmes and services.

Implement conflict prevention strategies (such as de‑escalation and responding to individual / community‑level crises) within the community with the support of the Supervisor and mandatory training, as appropriate.

Program Development & Facilitation

Inform the development of programme proposals, which include a statement of purpose, timelines, budget, activities, supplying inventory, etc.

Contribute to the evaluation framework that evaluates all programmes and services and reports findings to their respective Supervisor.

Participate in continuous quality improvement.

Administrative Duties

Maintain records for petty cash, programme participation forms, crisis interventions/referrals, programme evaluation in line with PQ’s Privacy and Confidentiality Policies and Procedures.

Ensure security of programme space and property (i.e., Keys, FOBS, I.T. equipment, programme supplies, bus tickets, etc.).
