Job PurposeThe Core Logger Geologist primary purpose is to assist and monitor the processing of diamond drill cores and supporting data on the company’s drilling projects. Also, to assist the Project Manager in other technical duties relating to a successful drilling program field as well as general maintenance duties around camp.
Job OverviewThe job will be primarily based in a large field camp assisting with diamond drilling operations. Other duties could include prospecting and geologic mapping. Office based duties, either in the Dawson City office or one of the larger field camps, could include data entry and the preparation of sample shipments.
The Core Logger Geologist will report directly to the Lead Project Geologist/ Project Manager while in camp.
Work schedule :
Rotation-based - Shifts are typically 21 days on and 7 days off

- Loading core boxes from point of delivery on to core logging tables
- Ensuring geotechnical duties are accomplished efficiently and effectively
- Marking drill sites and drill collar locations
- Sighting in the diamond drill and ensuring proper drilling orientation with the drill team
- Daily communication with the drilling crew and Project Manager
- Preparing daily updates and reports for the Project Manager
- Logging core lithology, alteration and mineralization
- Assisting in making sample shipments if needed
- Core cutting from time to time if needed
- Performing data entry of sample and technical data
- Managing and maintaining a sanitary, safe and organized work area to foster an environment that respects the well-being and health of all camp members.
- Assisting with camp duties that relate to the project if asked
- Ensuring all electronic tools for the job (ie, handheld devices and ICOM radios) are fully charged and ready for the work day each morning.
- Complete the mandatory online Safety Training during the onboarding process
- Ensure open dialogue and communication with direct supervisor on any aspects of training that remain "unclear" in a timely manner, to ensure additional coaching is provided prior to working in hazardous conditions.
- Participate in daily Safety Meetings as well as After Action Shift summaries, and all Emergency Response Plans (ERP).
- Report all Hazards, Near Misses, Close Calls, Incidents, Injuries and Non-Conformances encountered on the job, to identify safety hazard trends and mitigate future incidents.
- Adhere to all Safety Employee Rights and Responsibilities; including but not limited to, refusal of any unsafe work, whilst working towards a safe alternative.
- Wear all necessary Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the job and communicate any damaged PPE to be replaced in order to prevent injury.
The Core Logger Geologist position requires the employee to work outside in various terrain and weather conditions. The weather conditions include but are not limited to; a temperature range of
-20°C up to +35°C, very dry to very humid climate, heavy rainfall, wind and snow. Terrain can vary from rolling hills to steep mountain sides that will be traversed on foot daily.
The project location may be reached by a variety of transportation methods such as; truck, helicopter, boat, fixed-wing aircraft or all terrain vehicles.
Work days are typically 10 hour shifts that run 7 days a week for the duration of the project unless otherwise stated.
Every camp will be provided with a wall tent or tents of similar structure depending on location, satellite internet and all other camp elements.
Employees will be working and living in close quarters with the rest of their crew for the duration of the project.
Communication outside of camp may be limited as there is no cellphone service, and the satellite internet is not high-speed.
