- Performing skilled carpentry work by interpreting sketches, drawings, and plans to build or repair items as requested by customers.
- Completing building maintenance and construction tasks, including carpentry repairs, finishing work, replacement of floor coverings, and light masonry repairs.
- Providing labour and material cost estimates to support renovation, repair, and addition projects.
- Maintaining a small inventory of spare parts and materials to support efficient workflow.
- Operating a variety of woodworking tools and equipment safely and effectively.
- Maintaining clean, organized, and safe work areas, tools, and equipment in accordance with provincial, federal, and CNL requirements.
- Applying CNL safety programs and Event Free Tools procedures during all work activities and modeling safe work behaviours.
- Attending safety meetings and promptly reporting safety concerns or incidents.
- Assisting with the training, coaching, and mentoring of apprentices and new employees by demonstrating proper techniques and safe work practices.
- Other duties as assigned by your manager.
- Education
- Secondary school graduation diploma.
- Journeyperson Carpenter qualification, typically obtained through completion of a 7,200‑hour apprenticeship or equivalent.
- Certification in Tube and Clamp scaffolding.
- Experience
- Experience performing carpentry work in building maintenance and construction environments.
- Experience working in a multi‑trade or industrial setting is considered an asset.
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of applicable building codes, standards, and safe work practices.
- Demonstrated commitment to using and promoting personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills to coordinate work with supervisors, planners, schedulers, customers, and other trades.
- Ability to operate a wide variety of woodworking tools and equipment.
- Ability to estimate quantities, materials, and costs accurately.
- Strong problem‑solving skills, including the ability to analyze, troubleshoot, and implement solutions based on conceptual drawings.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic work environment.
- Security Clearance Eligibility Required
- Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”
- This position is part of the AC Union and is governed by the terms and conditions outlined in the AC Collective Agreement. As a member of this bargaining unit, you’ll benefit from clear expectations around hours of work, wages, vacation, and other conditions that support a fair and consistent working environment.
- Working schedule:
Four (4) days per week, ten (10) hours per day for a forty (40) hour work week.
