Diesel Truck Technician/Mechanic III (Helper/Apprentice)

Pay: $27-28 per hour

Shift premium: $3.00 for 2nd shift, $4.00 for 3rd shift

Monday–Thursday: 3:00 pm to 11:30 pm

Friday: 1:00 pm to 9:30 pm

Entry‑level position to start a career as a diesel truck mechanic. The Diesel Technician III serves as a mechanic’s helper/apprentice, performing minor component repairs and assisting with major component maintenance under a lead technician’s guidance.

• Remove, replace or adjust brakes (air and hydraulic), fifth wheel, minor electrical repairs, cab components, and accessories; maintain minor trailer components such as doors and wheel seals.
• Perform all aspects of preventive maintenance as trained.
• Assist with mechanical repairs and replacements directed by a Technician I, II, Lead Technician, or Supervisor.
• Provide customer service duties as necessary.
• Pick up and deliver vehicles.
• Maintain work area appearance and safety.
• Use hand tools and power tools, including pneumatic wrenches, welding equipment, jacks, and hoists.
• Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes, battery checks, and lubrication.
• Adjust and replace brakes, tighten bolts and screws, and reassemble equipment.
• Raise trucks, buses, and heavy parts using hydraulic jacks or hoists.
• Other duties assigned by supervisor.

• 1–2 years’ practical experience with vehicle or truck repair preferred.
• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• Vocational/technical certification preferred.
• Currently enrolled in an apprenticeship program.
• Maintain membership/registration with relevant government agencies.
• Working knowledge of hand tools required.
• Current driver’s license class G or class 5; ability to obtain class DZ it within 6 months of been hired required.
• Basic computer skills preferred for data entry into maintenance systems.
• Ability to work in non‑climate controlled conditions required.
• Regular, predictable, full attendance essential.
• Willingness to travel within the district for customer sites and training; ability to work required schedule and location.

• Regularly lift or move up to 12 kg; frequently up to 23 kg; occasionally up to 45 kg.
• Require good close, distance, peripheral and depth vision; ability to adjust focus.
• Stand, walk, sit, talk, hear; use hands for handling, feeling, and reaching.
