Canadian Nuclear Laboratories (CNL) is seeking a Building Maintainer/Carpenter to join our team. In this role, you will perform a variety of carpentry, maintenance, and construction activities to support facility operations and meet customer needs in a timely and professional manner.

What you will be doing!
  • Interpreting sketches, drawings, and plans to construct items and complete customer-requested projects in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Performing skilled and semi-skilled carpentry, repair, finishing, renovation, and maintenance work to support safe and reliable facility operations.
  • Replacing floor coverings and completing light masonry repairs as required to support building maintenance activities.
  • Preparing cost and labour estimates to assist customers with renovation, construction, and budgeting decisions.
  • Maintaining inventories of materials and spare parts to support efficient workflow and project completion.
  • Maintaining work areas, tools, and equipment in accordance with housekeeping standards and regulatory requirements.
  • Applying safety procedures, using personal protective equipment, and reporting safety concerns to support a safe working environment.
  • Attending safety meetings and incorporating established safety practices into daily work activities.
  • Assisting with the training, coaching, and mentoring of apprentices and trainees by demonstrating safe work practices and trade techniques.
  • Monitoring work quality, identifying opportunities for improvement, and communicating training needs and progress to supervisors.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.
What we are looking for:
  • Education
    • Secondary school diploma (or equivalent).
    • Certified Carpenter qualification obtained through the completion of a recognized apprenticeship program (typically 7,200 hours) or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
    • Tube and Clamp Scaffolding certification is considered an asset.
  • Experience
    • Experience performing carpentry work related to building maintenance, repairs, renovations, and construction projects.
    • Experience interpreting sketches, drawings, and plans to complete projects accurately and efficiently.
    • Experience providing material, labour, and cost estimates for maintenance and renovation work.
    • Experience working safely in industrial, commercial, or construction environments.
    • Experience mentoring, coaching, or supporting the development of apprentices and trainees is considered an asset.
  • Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Knowledge of applicable building codes, standards, and safe work practices.
    • Strong understanding of personal protective equipment (PPE) requirements and safe work procedures.
    • Demonstrated proficiency in the use of woodworking tools, equipment, and carpentry techniques.
    • Ability to estimate material quantities, quality requirements, and project costs.
    • Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving, and analytical skills.
    • Ability to read, interpret, and work from conceptual drawings and plans.
    • Effective written and verbal communication skills with the ability to collaborate across multiple trades and stakeholder groups.
    • Ability to work independently while managing competing priorities in a dynamic work environment.
  • Security Clearance Eligibility Required
    • Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's “Standard on Security Screening” and the “Policy on Government Security.”
Working Conditions:
  • Working schedule:
    Four (4) days per week, ten (10) hours per day for a forty (40) hour work week.
