The Industrial Control Electrician is responsible for using good electrical principles to install, maintain or modify electrical equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations of systems in a Class 1B nuclear facility. Maintaining and following quality programs, systems, and procedures necessary to ensure that Nordion meets ISO/GMP compliance.

Position Summary Reporting to the Manager, Facilities Operations, the Industrial Control Electrician will be responsible for using good electrical principles to install, maintain or modify electrical equipment to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient operations of systems. Perform maintenance and repairs on electrical equipment and systems using best trade practices. Maintaining and following quality programs, systems, and procedures necessary to ensure that Nordion meets ISO/GMP compliance.

Monitors work activities to identify and implement any improvements that will provide improved service, functions, or repair. Must adhere to all safety programs in place s position is deemed a Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW). A Nuclear Energy Worker (NEW) is defined by the Nuclear Safety and Control Act as a person who is required, in the course of the person’s business, or occupation in connection with a nuclear substance or nuclear facility to perform duties in such circumstances that there is a reasonable probability that the person may receive a dose of radiation that is greater than the prescribed limit for the general public (1 mSv per year for the whole body).

Key Responsibilities Working with blueprints, schematics, and layouts. Assembles, installs, and maintains electrical and electronic equipment such as high and low voltage devices (e.g. motors, lighting, power generators, switching, control gear, alarm systems for safety and radiation detection, etc.) and distribution systems.

Using analytical test equipment (e.g. multimeters, amprobes chart recorders, meggar, etc.), conduct tests and analyze results to determine causes of malfunctions and develop remedial action. Carry out necessary repairs or advise supervisor with appropriate  conjunction with immediate supervisor, develops test procedures and maintenance programs for critical safety systems and control equipment to comply with applicable nuclear regulations, Labour Canada regulations, GMP and ISO‑14001 requirements.

Follows all pertinent codes and regulatory requirements when making electrical installations and alterations.

Installs and maintains components of computer-controlled Building Management System to ensure efficient and effective operation of environmental and energy management systems.

Develops primary engineering and layout designs for electrical systems. Also, in cooperation with in-house technical staff and outside engineering consultants, inputs to design and specification of electrical equipment and systems.
