Maintenance Technician / Mechanic, Plumber, Installation Technician
Are you a skilled tradesperson with experience in plumbing and steamfitting who takes pride in maintaining critical infrastructure safely and efficiently? If you are, we are looking for a Mechanical Maintainer / Plumber / Steamfitter to join our team at our Chalk River Laboratories site. In this role, you will support operations, research, and decommissioning activities by performing installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, commissioning, and repair work on piping systems and associated mechanical equipment.

- Performing preventive maintenance and corrective maintenance activities on piping systems and associated mechanical equipment.
- Commissioning piping systems and equipment to support site infrastructure and operational requirements.
- Constructing, fabricating, installing, and modifying piping systems and associated mechanical equipment.
- Decommissioning piping systems and equipment, including safely removing piping, equipment, and related hazards.
- Reading and interpreting drawings, work packages, blueprints, and technical documentation to ensure work is completed accurately and in compliance with applicable requirements.
- Following maintenance records, route sheets, and quality control processes, including completing required documentation and sign-offs.
- Maintaining tools, equipment, and work areas while ensuring excellent housekeeping practices.
- Adhering to CNL, federal, provincial, and industry safety requirements and applying Event Free Tools practices throughout all assigned work.
- Troubleshooting mechanical systems and equipment to support safe and reliable operations.
- Assisting in training, coaching, and mentoring apprentices, trainees, and new employees by demonstrating safe work practices and technical skills.
- Collaborating with supervisors, planners, schedulers, facility staff, customers, and other trades personnel to coordinate work activities effectively.
- Other duties as assigned by your manager.
- Education
- Secondary school diploma.
- Qualification as a Plumber/Steamfitter, typically acquired through completion of a 9,000-hour apprenticeship program or equivalent.
- Experience
- Experience using standard hand tools, power tools, calibration equipment, and shop machinery safely and effectively.
- Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Knowledge of applicable codes, standards, and safe work practices related to plumbing, steamfitting, and mechanical maintenance.
- Demonstrated commitment to the proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a multi-trade environment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, specifications, and parts lists.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving abilities.
- Physical fitness and the ability to perform the demands of a skilled trades position.
- Security Clearance Eligibility Required
- Reliability Status with Site Access Security Clearance (SASC), which has a minimum requirement of 3-5 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, the United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat's "Standard on Security Screening" and the "Policy on Government Security."
- Working schedule:
Four (4) days per week, ten (10) hours per day for a forty (40) hour work week.
