Position Overview

This entry level position is responsible for assisting with the preparation of right-of-way plats, plans, legal descriptions, and related documents and drawings concerned with land acquisition and condemnation.

Essential Functions
  • Assists with preparation of plats and plans and related documents.
  • Assures that all time frames established for the preparation of plats and plans are adhered to.
  • Assures right-of-way strip maps are accurate.
  • Assures that all plats, legal descriptions, title work, and survey data are completed in a timely manner to minimize delays in processing excess land requests.
  • Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Current registration as a licensed Professional Land Surveyor in Illinois; OR completion of a bachelor's degree in land surveying from an accredited college or university PLUS successful completion of the Fundamentals of Surveying examination or Surveyor Intern license; OR completion of a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in a related science including 24 semester hours of land surveying courses PLUS successful completion of the Fundamentals of Surveying examination or Surveyor Intern license.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Good oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience with surveying, engineering, construction, or other related fields.
Conditions of Employment
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Frequent statewide travel with some overnight stays.
  • Successful completion of a background screening.
