Position Purpose
Under the authority of the supervisor, performs audit work, repair, maintenance, modification and installation in the areas of plumbing, heating and automatic sprinklers in university buildings. When necessary, performs welding, cutting and forging equipment and installations in university buildings.
Responsibilities- Repairs or replaces pipes and installs new accessories for plumbing upgrades.
- Connects indoor air ducts, pipes and drains to supply and return networks.
- Unblocks drains, tanks, showers, urinals, toilets and return pipes.
- Ensures maintenance of plumbing, taps, valves and other accessories.
- Turns external sprinkler systems on and off.
- Checks and maintains the campus water supply and sewer network.
- Welds and cuts sheets or steel frames, pieces of equipment or other metal objects with a torch, an electrical arc or similar welding and cutting devices.
- Forges to manufacture or repair pieces of machinery, tools, furnishings and equipment.
- Conducts various tests to determine if the system is waterproof.
- Installs, replaces, repairs and reconnects pipes and steam or hot water heating devices.
- Drills openings through walls or floors for pipes.
- Welds, bends, cuts, bores, threads, installs and reconnects pipes.
- Plumbing certification issued by the Ministry of Ontario
- At least 5 years of relevant experience in plumbing
- Experience in plumbing maintenance inside commercial buildings
- Certification of backflow is an asset
- Experience in welding is an asset
- Knowledge of safety rules according to WHMIS legislation
- Bilingualism (oral and written)
