Sports Information Assistant

Ottawa University (established in 1865), one of the oldest private liberal arts universities in the United States, is a multi-campus system serving approximately 4000 students through its campuses in Kansas, Arizona, Wisconsin, and its online program based out of Overland Park, Kansas.

The position is responsible for assisting in communication efforts of selected athletic contests for designated sports. Works a maximum of 29 hours a week, in designated weeks, during Fall and Spring Term.

Essential functions of the job include:

  • Assisting in communication efforts of selected athletic contests for the following sports: men's and women's, soccer, cross country, track and field, bowling, lacrosse, and tennis.
  • Responsible for comprehensive website management, event previews, game stories, scores, statistics, rosters and schedules updates, and archival program information.
  • Position will work with photography and videography related to the above priorities.
  • Must work cooperatively with others within and outside of the department to provide an effective product.
  • Must have a positive work attendance, work in a variety of environments and climatic conditions, have flexibility to work evenings and weekend hours.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required education:
Working toward a degree/collegiate coursework related to the requirements of this position.

Required experience:

Prior working experience (or coursework) which are related to the requirements of this position.

Additional eligibility requirements include:

  • Knowledge in the use of Adobe InDesign and Microsoft Office products.
  • Experience with Presto Web, and SIDEARM website content management systems.
  • Experience with photography and videography.
  • Ability to effectively accept and apply the instruction and critique of others and continue to show job improvement with increased experience.
  • Effective writing/communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and consistency.
  • Good verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively interact with students/employees/guests of the university community.

Working conditions include:

  • Maintain emotional control under stress. Frequent standing, stooping, bending, pulling, pushing, and lifting; frequent prolonged and irregular hours, and exposure to varying temperatures.
