The Registered Nurse (RN) in Family Birthplace promotes and restores patient health by completing the nursing process and delivering safe, individualized care. This role collaborates closely with physicians, and interdisciplinary team members to support mothers, newborns, and families with physical, emotional, and educational needs throughout the birth experience. The RN provides care consistent with facility policies, professional nursing standards, and applicable state regulations while helping create a healing environment for every family served.
Key ResponsibilitiesComplete comprehensive assessments of patients to evaluate physiological, psychological, developmental, sociocultural, spiritual, and lifestyle factors.
Develop, implement, and evaluate individualized care plans based on patient needs and standards of care.
Administer medications and treatments safely and accurately while monitoring for patient response and adverse reactions.
Provide patient and family education related to health conditions, newborn care, treatments, medications, and self-care strategies.
Collaborate with physicians, care team members, and ancillary departments to coordinate safe and effective care.
Maintain accurate and timely documentation of assessments, interventions, patient responses, and outcomes in the medical record.
Evaluate the effectiveness of interventions and revise the plan of care as needed to support positive patient outcomes.
Provide emotional support and therapeutic communication to patients and families during labor, delivery, recovery, and postpartum care.
Maintain a safe healthcare environment by following infection control protocols, safety standards, and regulatory requirements.
Supervise and delegate care appropriately to members of the healthcare team when assigned.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Strong organizational and multitasking skills
Knowledge of nursing care methods and procedures
Ability to work collaboratively as a team member within a unit
Effective verbal, oral, and written communication skills
Strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills
Ability to provide compassionate, family-centered care
Knowledge of EKG, based on patient care requirements
Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English
Basic computer skills and ability to navigate Microsoft Windows-based programs
Ability to use sound clinical judgment to assess patients, evaluate interventions, and revise the plan of care based on outcomes
Associate Degree in Nursing (ADN) — Required
Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) — Preferred
One year of acute care hospital experience — Preferred
Registered Nurse (RN) — Required
Basic Life Support (BLS) — Required
