QUALIFICATIONS:
Requires the following (or equivalent qualifications):
* At least three years of experience in Special Education teaching, service delivery, and/or administration
* Strong understanding of Special Education law and compliance
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
* Proficient with personal computers and spreadsheet software applications
* Ability to organize and complete multiple projects of varied complexity simultaneously
* Ability to build trusting relationships
* Licensed by the Iowa Board of Educational Examiners as a Special Education Teacher, School Psychologist, School Social Worker, and/or Special Education Director.
Preferred Qualifications
* Five years of experience in Special Education teaching, service delivery, and/or administration.
* Experience in planning and delivering professional development.
* Experience with instructional coaching and consultation.
JOB GOALS:
Provide district-wide leadership, oversight, and support for Special Education staff and administrators to:
* ensure compliance with Special Education laws and procedures through monitoring and consultation,
* promote implementation of best practices through professional development, coaching, and consultation,
* enhance the quality of IEPs through coaching, collaboration and consultation,
* Enhance specially designed instruction (SDI) and learning outcomes for students with IEPs by analyzing student data; ensuring progress monitoring is aligned to IEP goals; aligning goals to the Present Levels of Academic Achievement and Functional Performance (PLAAFP); supporting the development of high-quality Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), including fade plans; and supporting effective postsecondary transition planning.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The Special Education Coordinator will provide expert leadership, consultation, oversight, and professional development to assist principals and educators, ensuring compliance and implementation of best practices. The coordinator will use a variety of strategies, including coaching, consultation, collaboration, monitoring, facilitation, and the delivery of formal professional development to achieve the job goals. The Coordinator will assist with data analysis, collaborative teaming, resource alignment, observation/feedback, co-planning/co-teaching, classroom/behavior management, and compliance with state and federal guidelines.
The Coordinator will collaborate and consult with teachers and other members of the IEP Team on the development of quality IEPs. They will work with teachers to develop, implement and evaluate intervention strategies to support students in the classroom setting. The Coordinator will support implementation of the Iowa SDI Framework.
The Coordinator will develop and maintain a strong working knowledge of the District Developed Service Delivery Plan, ACHIEVE, and Iowa's statewide Special Education procedures. The Coordinator will engage in professional reading and attend regular training, workshops, and meetings to maintain a current knowledge base of legal requirements, procedures, and best practices.
The Coordinator works collaboratively with the Director of Curriculum, Principals, and AEA staff. The Coordinator is a leader in the District, modeling professionalism and promoting the Vision, Mission, Core Values, and Goals of the District. The Coordinator may serve as the LEA rep at an IEP in collaboration with the building principal. This person will perform other educational and leadership duties as assigned by the Director of Special Programs or designee.

* Exercises sound judgment and advanced problem-solving skills, working both independently and collaboratively to drive continuous improvement.
* Serves as a resource and thought partner to school administrators in interpreting, implementing, and monitoring district policies, state regulations, and federal mandates related to special education.
* Leads efforts to strengthen instructional capacity by coaching and supporting special education staff, including development and oversight of plans of assistance when appropriate, to ensure a highly effective workforce.
