Instructor, English Language Learner

Under limited supervision, this position provides instruction to English Language Learning. Classes may include basic and intermediate level ELL, Citizenship, and Computer Literacy.

• Bachelor’s degree required.
• Two years teaching experience preferred. Secondary Education Certification preferred.
• Ability to instruct students from diverse backgrounds.
• Ability to interact effectively with people on phone, via email, and in person.
• Ability to work with people is essential.
• Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
• Candidate must exhibit an excellent work ethic, demonstrate a professional attitude, and possess excellent computer literacy skills.
• Ability to maintain effective working relationships with others.
• Ability to interpret and handle routine decisions as related to departmental operations.
• Ability to follow oral and written instructions in detail with accuracy and efficiency.

• Assist students with ELL coursework in a variety of formats including explicit instruction, online learning, and individual instruction.
• Plan and participate in student orientation.
• Maintain and report accurate and timely student records.
• Provide staff development related to instruction, data entry and assessment.
• Assist with completion of State of Iowa Adult Education and Literacy program metrics in order to meet program goals.
• Maintain regular and consistent attendance at work.
• Maintain confidentiality regarding students and colleagues.
• Ability to organize and present various curriculum concepts to a wide range of students with varying backgrounds and abilities and adjust teaching techniques accordingly.
• Assume responsibility; deal effectively with problems, and exercise independent judgment when making decisions.
• Other duties as may be assigned.
