Job Description

Great Prairie Area Education Agency has an opening for a Teacher Assistant for the TDHH (Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing).

181-Day Contract (7-hour days) beginning with the  school year.

Starting pay: $16.89-$17.39 per hour with a generous paid leave package in addition to a monthly cafeteria plan allotment of $861 and IPERS retirement.

This position will serve Region 1, 2 & 3

Region 1: Albia, Centerville, Chariton, Moravia, Seymour, Wayne.

Region 2: Eddyville, Blakesburg, Fremont, Keota, North Mahaska, Oskaloosa, Oskaloosa Christian, Pekin, Sigourney, Tri-County.

Region 3: Cardinal, Davis County, Moulton-Udell, Ottumwa, Ottumwa Christian and Seton Catholic.

Position Overview:

Assists the Teacher to provide services necessary for the evaluation of educational programming and academic improvement of children aged birth to 21 years with a diagnosed hearing loss as assigned by the supervising Teacher of the Deaf & Hard of Hearing.

Qualifications:

The Teacher Assistant for the TDHH (Teacher of the Deaf and Hard of Hearing) must be at least 18 years of age and hold a high school diploma or its equivalent. The candidate must have the experience or capacity to demonstrate positive interpersonal skills, cooperative teamwork, and excellent written and verbal communication.

Responsibilities:

  • Implement instructional and advocacy activities as directed by the TDHH.
  • Identify and record correct/incorrect student responses.
  • Maintain communication with assigned TDHH on an ongoing basis.
  • Assist TDHH in material preparation.
  • Participate in parent/teacher conferences or staffings as requested by the TDHH.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all student information.
  • Maintain data required for use in local school district (LEA), AEA, state and federal reporting.
  • Participate in staff development opportunities as directed by the supervisor or TDHH.
  • Complete all other duties as assigned.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to travel between schools/sites served.
  • Normal, routine levels of activity related to bending, carrying, climbing, hearing, lifting, reaching, sitting, standing, vision and walking, and may also involve above-average levels of activity at times that can't always be anticipated.
