Behavioral Health RN

Overview

Behavioral Health RN provides direct nursing care to patients with behavioral and mental health needs in an acute care or behavioral health setting. This role requires strong clinical judgment, effective communication, and the ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary care team to ensure safe, therapeutic, and patient-centered care.

Location: Ottumwa, IA

Schedule: Full Time

• Provide comprehensive nursing care to behavioral health patients in accordance with established standards and policies
• Perform patient assessments, develop nursing care plans, and evaluate patient outcomes
• Administer medications and monitor patient responses
• Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation
• Collaborate with physicians, therapists, social workers, and interdisciplinary care teams
• Monitor patient safety, manage crisis situations, and utilize de-escalation techniques as appropriate
• Educate patients and families regarding treatment plans and available resources
• Ensure compliance with hospital policies, Joint Commission, CMS, and state regulatory requirements
• Participate in quality improvement and patient safety initiatives
• Other duties as assigned

• Strong knowledge of behavioral health nursing principles and practices
• Ability to assess and respond effectively to patients experiencing mental health crises
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, high-stress healthcare environment
• Strong critical thinking, decision-making, and documentation skills
• Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams

Graduate of a Registered Nursing program required

• Behavioral health or psychiatric nursing experience preferred
• Acute care hospital experience a plus

• Current BCLS certification
• Current Iowa RN license or compact/multistate RN license permitting practice in Iowa
