Nurse Extern

Job Summary

A Nurse Extern works under the direction and supervision of a Registered Nurse. Reports to Manager; accountable to Chief Nursing Officer. The position is FLSA:
Non‑exempt, part‑time (FTE 0.001 – PRN/OnCall) with varied shifts.

• Works collaboratively with the patient care team.
• Performs direct patient care under RN direction, delegation, and supervision.
• Documents patient care given.
• Monitors, records, and communicates patient condition to supervising RN.
• Maintains positive professional relationships with patients, families, coworkers, and the health care team.
• Assists patients with activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, elimination, nutrition, and ambulation.
• Collaborates across disciplines to coordinate patient care, including transfers, discharge, referrals, and spiritual/psychosocial support needs.
• Evaluates learning needs of patient and/or family and provides appropriate education.
• Advocates for the physical and emotional well‑being of the patient.
• Supports performance improvement philosophy.
• Assists with orientation and training of personnel and students.
• Participates and attends meetings as required or assigned.
• Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.

Minimum Education:

Enrolled in a School of Nursing.

Required Skills:

Critical thinking, decisive judgment, ability to work with minimal supervision, ability to work in a stressful environment, and take appropriate action.

Certifications:

Basic Life Support Health Care Provider (BLS‑HCP).
