Job DescriptionGreat Prairie Area Education Agency has an immediate opening for a Van Driver – Instructional Media Services.
Location: Ottumwa AEA Office
Schedule: Part-Time (85 days per year | Tuesdays & Thursdays, 7:00 AM – 4:30 PM | 9-hour shifts| Off in July)
Pay Rate: $18.39 / hour
Benefits: Iowa Public Employees' Retirement System (IPERS), generous paid leave package, and a $525.00 monthly cafeteria allotment.
Position OverviewGreat Prairie Area Education Agency (AEA) has an immediate opening for a Van Driver to support our Instructional Media program. Operating out of the Ottumwa AEA office, this position ensures the efficient distribution and delivery of instructional materials, mail, and resources to schools and libraries across the region, with travel up to 100 miles per route in a company-provided van.
Qualifications- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Valid Iowa driver’s license with a clean driving record.
- Strong interpersonal skills to build and maintain positive relationships with Agency staff, school personnel, students, and community members.
- Delivery Operations: Deliver and pick up instructional materials, media resources, and agency mail for participating schools and libraries while strictly maintaining assigned route schedules.
- Vehicle Care & Maintenance: Responsible for refueling, basic servicing, monitoring fluid levels, tire wear, and vehicle body integrity, as well as keeping the interior and exterior of the van clean and professional.
- Customer Service & Communication: Represent the Agency with a courteous, professional demeanor. Answer routine questions regarding Instructional Media along the route and relay complex inquiries to supervisors.
- Record Keeping: Complete and maintain accurate logs and documentation associated with material deliveries and vehicle maintenance in accordance with Agency policies.
- Punctuality & Self-Management: Work as a self-starter who can independently manage time and adhere to a rigid schedule.
- Assist with operations, projects, and tasks within the Media Center when route schedules permit.
- Participate in professional development, staff meetings, and committees aligned with the mission of the Agency and Instructional Media program.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Frequent bending, reaching, standing, and walking throughout the shift.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds regularly.
- Sufficient manual dexterity to operate delivery equipment and vehicle controls.
- Capacity for continuous visual, hearing, and verbal communication.
- Ability to drive long distances (up to 100 miles per route) between assigned sites.
