Senior Director, Controller
Ace Retail Group (ARG), a division of Ace Hardware Corporation, is looking for a Senior Director, Controller. ARG owns and operates several Ace brands and is one of the largest hardware retailers in the United States. The Senior Director, Controller will assist in maintaining the financial health of Ace Retail Group by assuring the accuracy, consistency, and compliance of all internal controls and government regulations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting:
- Direct Financial Statement and Monthly Report preparation and distribution.
- Ensure that all accounting, Generally Accepted Accounting Principle (GAAP) and reporting controls are in place and in compliance.
- Oversee that all financial reports are completed, quality checked, and distributed in a timely manner.
- Provide leadership for the general ledger system, reporting maintenance and closing processes.
- Supervise income tax data requirements with Ace Corporate tax, tax accrual, deferred tax reconciliation and income tax rate maintenance.
- Supervise completion of sales tax returns and oversee audits.
- Manage balance sheet to ensure all accounts are analyzed and timely reconciliations are completed.
- Manage annual audit process.
Banking Controls:
- Manage cash, guiding cash maintenance and BBC completion, bank account reconciliations including operating, depository payroll and credit card.
- Review and ensure timely completion of debt covenants, debt payments, and completion of debt schedules and reporting.
Fixed Asset Accounting:
- Supervise fixed asset accounting including fixed asset additions, determining budgeted vs. unbudgeted, reconciliation to GL, and the calculation and entry of use tax.
- Oversee all maintenance of the tax basis for fixed asset records.
Accounts Receivable:
- Provide leadership to Manager of Accounts Receivable who supervises billing, cash receipts, and reconciliation of customer AR accounts and vendor coop billings, advertising expense reconcilement, and management of tax exempt sales documentation.
Accounts Payable:
- Provide leadership to Manager of Accounts Payable who supervises payments and reconciliation of Ace Intercompany accounts.
Lease Accounting:
- Supervise lease accounting including the recording and reconciliations of all lease assets and liabilities, audit of landlord billings, maintenance of lease summary data on common area maintenance (CAM) and taxes.
Sales Audit:
- Supervise Sales Audit position and establish processes.
- Field administrative processes assessment, revision and maintenance of store accounting and cash handling processes.
- Work closely with Regional FES, District Managers, Loss Prevention and Operations Support teams to ensure that procedures are performed at the store level and that documentation is updated appropriately.
Minimum Skills, Requirements and
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Accounting with 10+ years of financial accounting management experience.
- Demonstrated understanding of and experience in financial accounting and reporting, business and systems operations, internal controls and tax regulatory compliance requirements.
- Advanced knowledge of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP), including Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB) standards.
- Ability to manage and lead a high performing team with focus on critical goals and delivery of high-quality results and customer service.
- Provides guidance and direction for achievement of objectives.
- Ability to organize and coordinate multiple projects and assignments and establish appropriate priorities and deadlines.
- Proficiency with MS Excel including the ability to work with and organize large amounts of data using pivot tables, vlookups and other Excel tools.
- Proficiency in MS Office:
Word, PowerPoint and Outlook. - Must have excellent organizational, analytical, written and verbal communication skills.
- Experience with JD Edwards financial software on an AS400 platform desired.
- Experience with business intelligence software desired.
- Standing, walking, lifting (up to 25lbs.) and climbing.
Compensation Details:
$150000 per year
