Role Description The Lease Auditor is a full-time role based in the Kansas City Metropolitan Area. Training will be on-site but position will move to hybrid after completed training. This role is responsible for reviewing commercial lease agreements, operating expense reconciliations, and related billing documentation to identify discrepancies and potential cost savings for clients. Day-to-day tasks include analyzing lease clauses, assessing common area maintenance (CAM) charges, reviewing overtime HVAC and utility rates, and preparing detailed audit findings and reports.
The Lease Auditor will collaborate with internal team members and clients to clarify contract terms, support recovery efforts, and recommend process improvements. The role also involves maintaining organized audit work papers, adhering to firm methodologies, and contributing to the continuous enhancement of lease auditing practices. Ideal candidate would be able to support marketing/sales initiatives.
- Ability to analyze commercial lease contracts, amendments, operating expense billings, invoices, general ledgers, utility and tax bills and other financial & legal documents, operating expense statements, and CAM reconciliations with strong attention to detail.
- Proficiency in financial analysis, accounting concepts, and cost review related to occupancy expenses and utility charges.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills for preparing clear audit reports and explaining findings to landlords, clients, and colleagues.
- Solid organizational and time management skills to handle multiple audits, meet deadlines, and maintain accurate work product, documentation, and correspondence.
- Processing general administrative & accounting related requests from the Director and Senior Auditor staff, as well as being cross trained for backup duties of other team members.
- Maintaining status reports and updates for all open projects.
- Comfort working with spreadsheets and audit tools; proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite with advance knowledge of Excel.
- Should be self-starter with ability to work independently.
- Experience or coursework in commercial real estate, property management, or lease administration is highly beneficial.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Real Estate broker; CPA or other relevant professional certifications are a plus.
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a professional team environment and maintain client confidentiality and integrity.
