Construction Inspector
Location:
Overland Park, Kansas
Garver, an employee‑owned engineering, planning, and environmental services firm, is looking for a Construction Inspector for its Kansas Practice. The primary duties include inspection and observation of roadway, bridge, airports, water & wastewater facilities, and utility construction projects.
Primary Responsibilities- Interact with clients, contractors, the public, and Garver staff in the course of work
- Use written and oral communication skills regularly
- Read and interpret construction plans, project specifications, testing reports, schedules, and other documents
- Analyze and solve problems
- Observe and interpret situations on construction job sites
- Perform highly detailed work on multiple concurrent tasks
- Work under intense deadlines
- Perform construction materials testing to verify contract compliance
- Ensure contractor quality meets contract requirements and review discrepancies with client Resident Engineer and/or Garver Project Manager
- Prepare daily reports of all construction activities, weather, personnel, materials, and equipment on site
- Measure, calculate, and report quantities of work performed to produce progressive pay estimates
- Regularly stand and/or walk while holding tools or objects in the field
- Reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, and crouch
- Regularly lift/move up to 25 pounds, frequently up to 10 pounds, and occasionally up to 50 pounds
- Experience in construction inspections and materials testing
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Current and valid driver's license
- Proficient with MS Outlook, Word, and Excel
- Strong written and verbal communication experience
- 3-5 years of relevant experience
- Inspection and/or material testing certifications for Missouri or Kansas DOT
- Willingness to travel for projects
- Consent to background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle report as a requirement of employment
- KDOT Inspection & Materials Sampling Certifications
- Experience with Civil 3D and/or Micro Station
- Knowledge of KDOT Specifications
- Experience with Construction Management Software or AASHTOWare
- Experience observing roadway, bridge, airports, water & wastewater facilities, and utility construction projects
- Construction Management coursework
- Certified Concrete Technician (ACI Certification)
- Traffic Control/Safety training
- Other testing and inspection certifications
