Health Science Adjunct - Organic Chemistry
South College is seeking a Part-Time Adjunct Faculty member who is a subject matter expert in Organic Chemistry. The course content encompasses the fundamental concepts and principles of organic chemistry, including but not limited to the following topics: introduction to the various classes of organic compounds, their structure and properties, nomenclature and stereo chemistry, and the various kinds of organic reactions, functional derivatives, reaction mechanisms, and organic polymer chemistry.
The laboratory courses have been designed to be taken concurrently with, and to supplement the subject matter covered in the lectures. Virtual or at-home assignments have been integrated into the laboratory courses. The lectures and laboratories have separate course codes but together constitute a single course for teaching load (i.e., one Organic Chemistry I Lecture and one Organic Chemistry I Lab count as one course).
ResponsibilitiesTeach Organic Chemistry I Lecture and Lab as part of a combined course load; develop and deliver course content; assess and evaluate student performance; coordinate with online/virtual components as applicable; ensure alignment with program goals and outcomes.
RequirementsCandidates must show evidence of the following:
EducationA minimum of an acceptable master’s degree in the specific subject matter field (doctorate preferred).
Alternatively: an earned master’s or doctoral degree and satisfactory completion of 18 graduate semester hours in the subject matter field.
ExperienceExperience teaching similar courses at a higher education institution. Preference will be given to candidates with experience teaching online.
