Position: Assistant Professor of Spanish – Full‑time Faculty, Exempt, Hybrid schedule:
No. Starting Salary Range: $54,122.00–$91,437.00 (based on experience).
Location:
Overland Park, Kansas (must reside in Kansas or Missouri). Begin:

Johnson County Community College is seeking an assistant professor to teach Spanish courses (Elementary, Intermediate, Heritage Speaker, Spanish for Hospitality, Conversational Spanish) in the Foreign Languages Department. The faculty member will teach approximately 15 credit hours per semester and perform other duties such as maintaining office hours, curriculum development, course assessment, attending department and college meetings, serving on committees, and participating in Spanish‑related initiatives on and off campus.
Required Qualifications- M.A. in Spanish or related discipline with at least 18 hours of graduate Spanish coursework (HLC criteria).
- At least 2 years of teaching at the post‑secondary level or high‑school teaching experience.
- Ability to teach Elementary and Intermediate Spanish courses.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills, as evidenced by references.
- Ph.D. in Spanish, Language Pedagogy, Second Language Acquisition, or Linguistics focused on Spanish.
- M.A. in French, German, Chinese, or Japanese with at least 18 hours of graduate coursework in the respective language.
- Experience teaching heritage speakers of Spanish.
- Ability to work collaboratively and independently on departmental initiatives.
- Familiarity with proficiency‑based language learning.
- Deliver effective instruction in Spanish, demonstrating deep subject knowledge and applying current research and methodology.
- Use evidence‑based teaching strategies to create engaging learning environments, design assignments, and assess student learning.
- Provide constructive feedback and improve teaching effectiveness through reflective practice.
- Maintain accurate academic records, prepare syllabus, and meet institutional policies regarding confidentiality and grading.
- Participate in department, division, and college meetings, committees, and Spanish‑related initiatives.
- Engage students both in face‑to‑face, hybrid, or online settings, and offer co‑curricular opportunities.
