Position Summary

Johnson County Community College is looking to fill a full-time faculty position in Foreign Languages to teach Spanish language courses. The qualified candidate would be expected to begin employment in August 2027.

Faculty Duties

The successful applicant will teach the equivalent of 15 credit hours per semester in Spanish and perform other duties expected of full‑time faculty, including:

  • Maintaining scheduled office hours
  • Developing and revising curriculum
  • Implementing assessment of student learning outcomes
  • Participating in department, division, and college meetings
  • Serving on committees
  • Participating in Spanish‑related initiatives at JCCC
  • Collaborating with adjunct and other full‑time faculty in the Foreign Language department
  • Providing extra and co‑curricular opportunities for Spanish language students
  • Planning and administering departmental initiatives
  • Participating in on‑campus and off‑campus events promoting languages
  • Other duties as assigned
Teaching Expectations
  • Teach Elementary, Intermediate, Heritage Speaker, Spanish for Hospitality, and Conversational Spanish courses
  • Offer face‑to‑face day or evening courses, hybrid or online as required by department needs
  • Maintain professional credentials as required by accrediting agencies
  • Select, develop, and organize instructional materials
  • Use proven methods of engagement and assessment to facilitate student mastery
  • Provide constructive, encouraging, and corrective feedback
  • Adapt instructional methods and strategies to meet diverse student needs
  • Plan and organize instruction to enhance student learning
  • Prepare and distribute syllabi following established procedures and guidelines
  • Maintain accurate records of student academic standing
  • Respond to student grade questions and appeals promptly
  • Respect confidentiality of student information
  • Be accessible to students through e‑mail, mobile technology, or scheduled office hours
  • Meet classes as scheduled and notify Chair or Dean of any absence, arranging for a substitute if possible
  • Collaborate with faculty, staff, and stakeholders to create and enhance partnerships
  • Provide support for adjunct and full‑time colleagues through consultation and cooperation
  • Serve as an active member of the college community and contribute to collegial culture
  • Participate in professional development opportunities and office planning
  • Develop and revise departmental or program curricula as appropriate
Required Qualifications
  • M.A. in Spanish or a related discipline with at least 18 hours of graduate work in Spanish as required by JCCC HLC criteria
  • Demonstrated 2 years of teaching experience at the post‑secondary level and/or high school teaching experience
  • Demonstrated ability to teach Elementary and Intermediate level Spanish language courses
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, as evidenced by letters of reference
Preferred Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Spanish, Language Pedagogy, Second Language Acquisition, or Linguistics with a focus on the Spanish language
  • M.A. in French, German, Chinese, or Japanese with at least 18 hours of graduate work in the respective language as required by JCCC HLC criteria
  • Experience teaching heritage speakers of Spanish
  • Ability to work well and independently on departmental initiatives
  • Familiarity with proficiency‑based language learning
Additional Requirements
  • Must reside in Kansas or Missouri

  • Unofficial transcripts required for all full‑time faculty
