Starting Salary Range

AJCR $1,262-$1,404 per credit hour in accordance with the adjunct table and determined based on relevant years of work experience provided on application and resume.

Position Summary

The Foreign Language department is seeking a Spanish adjunct professor to teach Elementary and Intermediate level Spanish language. JCCC is located in Overland Park, KS, part of the greater Kansas City Metro. The role may be taught in person or live online (Zoom) during the summer, spring, or fall semesters. The successful applicant may teach the equivalent of 5-10 credit hours or serve as a substitute professor, collaborating with full‑time and adjunct faculty and performing other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities
  • Provide extra and co‑curricular opportunities for Spanish language students.
  • Participate in the planning and administration of all departmental initiatives.
  • Participate in on‑campus events promoting languages.
  • Complete ACTFL and/or other departmental training.
Required Qualifications
  • M.A. degree in Spanish or an MA in a related discipline with at least 18 hours of graduate work in Spanish as required by JCCC HLC criteria.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach Elementary and Intermediate Spanish courses.
  • Demonstrated excellent communication and collaboration skills.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of using technology in the classroom.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach online using Zoom or a similar platform.
  • Demonstrated 2 years teaching experience at the post‑secondary level and/or 4 years of high‑school teaching experience.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Demonstrated understanding of the climate of post‑secondary institutions.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of ACTFL World‑Readiness Standards for Learning Languages.
  • Documentation from ACTFL (OPI) of advanced mid or higher in Spanish.
  • Ability to teach Chinese, German, Japanese or French with HLC credentials.
  • Ph.D. in Spanish.
  • Demonstrated ability to teach Elementary and Intermediate Spanish language courses.

Applicants must submit an application, resume, unofficial transcript, one letter of recommendation from a supervisor, and one letter of recommendation from a colleague that addresses language, teaching, and collaborative skills. Unofficial transcripts are required for all adjunct faculty positions.
