Type of Position: Part-time Temporary
Exemption Status: Non-Exempt
Opportunity for hybrid schedule: No
Starting Salary Range: $23.68-$30.64 and determined based on relevant years of work experience provided on application and resume.
Position Summary: The Digital Accessibility Librarian role supports Billington Library through the evaluation of library resources in compliance with ADA Title II and WCAG standards. The librarian works collaboratively with colleagues across the library and the college in the evaluation of resources. The librarian will analyze VPATs (Voluntary Product Accessibility Templates) for library resources and determine readiness for meeting Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG).
The librarian will perform accessibility assessments of diverse digital materials, including e-books, databases, streaming media, and website content, using established checklists and guidelines. The librarian will identify and document common WCAG and ADA Title II non-compliance issues such as missing alternative text, insufficient color contrast, incorrect reading order, and improper heading structures. This position reports to the Collection Development Librarian.
Required Qualifications:
- Requires a Master's Degree in Library Science from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited institution.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Demonstrated knowledge of digital accessibility practices and evaluation
- Demonstrated knowledge of VPATs (Voluntary Product Accessibility Templates)
- Demonstrated knowledge of Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG), specifically WCAG 2.1AA

- Vendor & Resource Evaluation:
Analyze digital accessibility documents from third-party suppliers and freely available materials, including VPATs (Voluntary Product Accessibility Templates) for library resources and determine readiness for meeting Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG). - Testing & Documenting Compliance:
Perform accessibility assessments of diverse digital materials, including e-books, databases, streaming media, and website content, using established checklists and guidelines. Identify and document common WCAG and ADA Title II non-compliance issues such as missing alternative text, insufficient color contrast, incorrect reading order, and improper heading structures. - Professional Development & Industry Awareness:
Maintain current knowledge of applicable policies or regulations and an awareness of new technologies, trends, and advances in digital accessibility within library services. - Other duties as assigned:
Duties and responsibilities, as required by business necessity, may be updated at any time at the discretion of management.
