Overview
Insight Global is seeking a highly skilled and client-focused lead substation physical engineer to join our dynamic team. This role specializes in the design of high-voltage (4kV–230kV) and extra-high-voltage (above 230kV) substations for utility systems and renewable energy interconnection projects. The engineer will take full technical ownership of physical substation design, including general arrangements, plan and elevation views, grounding and conduit layouts, AC/DC calculations for station service and battery systems, and preparation of equipment specifications, bills of materials, and construction documentation.
Responsibilities also include conducting grounding, lightning, and bus fault stress studies, supporting procurement and construction phases, and coordinating with internal and external stakeholders such as transmission, distribution, civil, geotechnical, and survey teams. A strong understanding of NESC, NEC, and relevant standards is essential. The ideal candidate will also contribute as a technical specialist in system protection and communication, participate in client technical review meetings, and help optimize engineering team performance and ROI.
