Structural Detailer

Overview

IAC is seeking a skilled Structural Detailer to join our team onsite in Overland Park, Kansas
. In this role, you will be responsible for creating precise and detailed technical drawings for steel structures, ensuring compliance with project specifications, industry standards, and fabrication requirements. As a key member of our engineering and drafting team, you will contribute to large-scale industrial projects
, including bulk material handling systems, air pollution control (APC) equipment, dust collection systems, pneumatic transport, and hazardous gas emission mitigation solutions
. The Steel Detailer will collaborate closely with engineers, project managers, and fabricators to develop high-quality, fabrication-ready designs that drive efficiency in manufacturing and construction.

• Develop detailed 2D and 3D CAD drawings of steel structures, including beams, columns, trusses, platforms, and other industrial components.
• Generate shop drawings, erection plans, and material lists for fabrication and construction.
• Interpret and review engineering designs, architectural drawings, and specifications to ensure compliance with industry standards and project requirements.
• Collaborate with engineers, project managers, and fabricators to resolve design issues and optimize detailing processes for manufacturing efficiency.
• Utilize detailing software such as AutoCAD, Autodesk Advanced Steel, Tekla Structures or SDS/2 to produce accurate models and plans.
• Perform clash detection and proactively identify potential fabrication or installation challenges.
• Ensure all drawings and designs comply with AISC, OSHA, and project-specific standards

• Maintain thorough documentation of all revisions and updates to shop drawings.
• Assist in estimating material quantities and verifying bill of materials (BOM) for projects.
• Support quality control processes by reviewing and refining designs before submission.

• Education: Associate’s degree, technical certification, or equivalent experience in Drafting, Engineering, or a related field

• Experience: Minimum 2-5 years of experience in steel detailing or structural drafting
  .
• Proficiency in Advance Steel preferred, or similar detailing software
  . AutoCAD, Tekla Structures, SDS/2
• Strong understanding of structural steel components, welding symbols, and fabrication processes
  .
• Knowledge of AISC and OSHA standards for steel structures.
• Ability to interpret sketches, technical drawings, and engineering specifications
  .
• Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail
  .
• Strong communication and collaboration skills to work effectively with engineers, fabricators, and project managers.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Must be able to work onsite in Overland Park, Kansas—this is not a remote position.

• Experience with BIM modeling and clash detection tools
  .
• Knowledge of material take-offs and estimating
  .
• Familiarity with CNC and automated fabrication processes
