Opportunity

Responsible for the preparation of detailed cost estimates for a diverse client base including municipal, government and private clients. Project types include water and wastewater treatment facilities, pipeline conveyance, heavy civil and structural projects, dams and hydro facilities, tunnel construction, waterway, and marine construction.

The Team

As part of BV Operations, your skills will be aligned to projects that support our three market sectors—Fuels and Natural Resources, Power Providers and Technology, and Industrial and Governments. In roles such as Engineers, Technicians, and Skilled Specialists you will be engaged with exciting projects across the globe. From small community improvements to giant mega‑projects, you will build a world of difference while focusing on continuous learning and development.

Key Responsibilities
  • Retains primary accountability for estimate compliance for each project.
  • Prepares complete and accurate cost estimates.
  • Performs quantity takeoffs for estimates, including assigning crews and productivity for each discipline.
  • Reviews all scopes to ensure compliance with the project documents.
  • Prepares cost estimates on proposals, projects, and studies and ensures that the estimate content is complete, accurate and meets the project requirements.
  • Works with design teams to understand project complexity, size and required systems.
  • Provides technical advice in the preparation of all levels of estimates, ranging from simple factored estimates to complex multi‑billion‑dollar lump‑sum bids.
  • Effectively manages multiple projects and estimate timelines.
  • Coordinates with design, operation and procurement teams on project status and requirements.
  • Communicates with the estimating team throughout all project stages.
  • Appraises overall accuracy of estimates and recommends contingencies for bids such as lump sum, defined estimates, and interim control estimates.
  • Assists the Solution Team Leader with independent assessment of an estimate’s accuracy.
  • Leads internal and multi‑department review meetings to ensure alignment on scope and definitions.
  • Ensures orderly flow of project assignments, keeping schedules and budgets.
  • Directs, trains and develops subordinates or junior estimators.
  • Supports continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Plans, coordinates, reviews, verifies and analyzes all aspects of estimates and presentations.
  • Assists in training program development to improve estimating techniques for all personnel.
  • Stays familiar with external estimating developments and assesses applicability.
  • Identifies and recommends improvement opportunities.
  • Champions continuous improvement efforts.
  • Other administrative, supervisory, and technical duties as assigned.
  • Helps maintain the company estimating database.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Minimum of 8‑10 years of estimating experience.
  • BS or MS graduate in Construction Management or related field preferred but not required.
  • Cost control and scheduling exposure is a plus.
