Structural Engineering Technicians contribute to the design, analysis, and detailing of structural components and systems that support these advanced industrial and commercial facilities.

The Staff Engineering Technician plays a key role in supporting the development of high‑quality engineering deliverables for these complex infrastructure projects. Under general supervision, this position performs technical tasks requiring advanced knowledge of engineering principles and practices, with a focus on creating and modifying structural models, drawings, and details using industry standard design tools such as AutoCAD, Micro Station, and PLS‑CADD.

The technician provides technical guidance and may offer directions to other engineering professionals and technicians to ensure quality and consistency across project outputs.

• Function in a project engineering technician capacity.
• Under general direction, support engineering and design teams by developing and modifying technical deliverables.
• Apply foundational engineering principles and established design practices to create moderately complex design concepts and solutions.
• Utilize digital tools and design software (e.g., CAD, BIM, 3D modeling) to create, modify, and maintain technical documentation, drawings, and project deliverables.
• Provide technical guidance and may offer directions to other engineering professionals and technicians to ensure quality and consistency across project outputs.
• Apply knowledge of standards, systems, document control, departmental guides, applicable codes and BV policies and procedures.
• Review project requirements and determine the correct format and contents of the required deliverables.
• Proactively apply BV Quality Program to deliverables. Demonstrate personal accuracy and support continuous improvement and change management efforts.
• Review design inputs to ensure consistency and compliance with the specific codes and standards suitable for the project.
• Perform design calculations, detailed material quantities and estimates, and record keeping.
• Review deliverables of others and provide feedback.
• Define work assignments and maintain schedules.
• Program control systems or participate in other plant start‑up activities associated with a specialized area of expertise.
• Coordinate with other design group personnel to review and exchange project information necessary for design development.
• Support field activities and focus on the needs of internal clients while understanding external client’s main interests with drivers.
• Proactively seek and share knowledge of latest technologies and processes.

Diploma or Certificate preferred. Associate Degree in Drafting or an Engineering Design Related Technology preferred.

Typically a minimum of 5 years related work experience. All applicants must be able to complete pre‑employment onboarding requirements (if selected) including criminal/civil background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search, in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.

• This position would require working in a typical office environment. The position may entail prolonged periods of sitting and computer use and require focus and attention to detail throughout the workday. Physical tasks during site visits may include crouching, grasping, standing/walking for extended periods.
• Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days of employment based upon manager discretion, job performance and work assignments.
