Job Summary

The Civil Engineering Technician functions in a project engineering technician capacity, supporting multidisciplinary project teams within the Power Providers Market Sector on Advanced Power Generation (APG) projects. Under general direction, this role develops and modifies technical deliverables, applying foundational engineering principles and established design practices to create moderately complex design concepts and solutions. The position utilizes advanced design tools, including Autodesk Civil 3D, Bentley Micro Station, and Bentley Open Plant Modeler, to support high-quality engineering deliverables for complex infrastructure projects.

Job Description
  • Support engineering and design teams by developing and modifying technical deliverables.
  • Utilize digital tools and design software (e.g., CAD, BIM, 3D modeling) to create, modify, and maintain technical documentation, drawings, and project deliverables.
  • Apply knowledge of standards, systems, document control, departmental guides, applicable codes, and policies and procedures.
  • Review project requirements and accurately determine the correct format and contents of required deliverables.
  • Proactively apply quality program requirements to deliverables and support continuous improvement and change management efforts.
  • Review design inputs to ensure consistency and compliance with project-specific codes and standards.
  • Apply basic engineering principles and established design practices in developing moderately complex design concepts and deliverables.
  • Exercise judgment and make decisions regarding deliverables and interpretation of design inputs.
  • Perform design calculations, detailed material quantity takeoffs, estimates, and recordkeeping.
  • Handle difficult technical assignments within an area of expertise and provide technical guidance to other professionals.
  • Review the deliverables of others as needed.
  • Define work assignments and maintain schedules when required.
  • Program control systems or participate in plant start-up activities associated with a specialized area of expertise.
  • Coordinate with other design group personnel to review and exchange project information necessary for design development.
  • Support field activities as needed.
  • Focus on internal client needs while understanding external client interests and project drivers.
  • Proactively seek and share knowledge of the latest technologies and processes.
  • Provide technical guidance and direction to engineering professionals and technicians to ensure quality and consistency across project outputs.
Skills Required
  • Typically a minimum of 5 years of related work experience.
  • Advanced experience with Autodesk Civil 3D.
  • Advanced experience with Bentley Micro Station.
  • Advanced experience with Bentley Open Plant Modeler.
  • Knowledge of engineering standards, systems, document control procedures, and applicable codes.
  • Ability to develop and modify technical engineering deliverables.
  • Experience with CAD, BIM, and 3D modeling tools.
  • Strong understanding of site development design, including grading and drainage, erosion control, roadways, fencing, and underground utilities.
  • Ability to perform design calculations, material quantity takeoffs, and estimates.
  • Strong technical problem-solving and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to coordinate effectively with multidisciplinary design teams.
  • Ability to provide technical guidance and support to other professionals.
Education/Training/Certifications
  • Diploma or Certificate required.
  • Associate Degree or Bachelor's Degree in Drafting or an Engineering Design-Related Technology preferred.
