Overview
ENERCON’s New Reactor Group is seeking a highly experienced Principal Project Engineer to lead the design and integration for emerging advanced nuclear generation technologies. The role involves working on all aspects of nuclear plant design, including nuclear steam supply system (NSSS) and balance‑of‑plant (BOP) systems, and providing consulting services to utilities, project developers, and nuclear technology vendors. The Engineer serves as the engineering leader on assigned projects, fostering excellence through technical oversight, leadership, multi‑discipline collaboration, client interface, and project execution.
Locations:
Remote considered for experienced candidates. Preferred locations include Kennesaw, GA;
Overland Park, KS;
Naperville, IL; and other U.S. locations.
- Lead multi‑discipline engineering efforts for nuclear power generation projects from conceptual design through issued‑for‑construction deliverables, ensuring compliance with industry standards, codes, and safety regulations.
- Oversee and review key engineering deliverables, including system design documents, P&IDs, plant layouts, equipment specifications, and system interface documents, to ensure technical consistency and constructability.
- Coordinate with mechanical, civil, environmental, electrical, structural, nuclear, and I&C engineering teams to integrate across disciplines, manage vendor relationships, and evaluate major equipment packages.
- Interface with project management to define engineering scope, work breakdown structures, schedules, and risk matrices, and provide regular technical input for project controls. Collaborate with construction partners to align design‑construction interfaces and schedules, and support proposal development and budgeting activities.
- Provide technical mentorship focusing on quality, professional development, and knowledge transfer.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from an accredited university.
- 8–12 years of experience in power generation engineering, including nuclear plants, steam turbines, HRSG systems, and combined‑cycle power plants.
- 3–5 years in a lead or principal engineering role.
- Strong understanding of thermodynamic cycles, heat and mass balances, fluid systems, and BOP design.
- Experience coordinating engineering activities across multiple disciplines.
- Demonstrated ability to interface with clients, developers, OEMs, and EPC partners.
- Working knowledge of applicable industry codes and standards (ASME, API, NFPA, etc.).
- Familiarity with industry‑standard software tools for design, engineering data management, document control, and project management.
- Experience providing technical leadership within a project or discipline team.
- Ability to travel up to 15% of the time, as required by project and client needs.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license preferred.
- Experience working in EPC project environments.
- Experience in the full engineering lifecycle (front‑end, design, construction, commissioning).
- Experience with permitting and regulatory compliance.
- Experience with owner’s engineer roles.
- Familiarity with performance testing and acceptance testing.
- Experience in the commercial nuclear power industry.
- Experience with FEL/FEED studies.
USD $150,000 to $185,000 per year, based on skills, experience, location, and internal equity.
