Radar Systems Engineer

Job Description

This role focuses on the design, development, integration, and qualification of advanced radar and radio communication systems. You will work across multiple engineering disciplines, with a strong emphasis on RF engineering, digital electronics, and FPGA-based processing, to deliver reliable and high-performance radar solutions. The position offers the opportunity to contribute to large-scale modernization programs in a rapidly growing organization.

Responsibilities

* Design and develop RF and electronic modules for radar and radio communication systems, including transmit and receive chains and RF subsystems.

* Design RF circuits and antenna solutions to meet system performance, reliability, and compliance requirements.

* Develop digital electronic designs using processors, FPGAs, and SoC architectures for radar signal processing and control.

* Engineer FPGA-based processing elements and embedded systems that interface with RF front ends and other subsystems.

* Perform integration and testing of complex electronic systems, ensuring proper interaction between RF, digital, and embedded components.

* Plan and execute environmental qualification tests and ensure EMI/EMC compliance of radar and electronic assemblies.

* Define, derive, and manage system and subsystem requirements, maintaining full traceability between requirements and verification methods.

* Prepare formal technical documentation, including requirements specifications, design descriptions, and test procedures and reports.

* Apply reliability and electronic components engineering principles to ensure robust and maintainable radar systems.

* Conduct root cause failure analysis on non-conformances and field or test issues to identify underlying technical problems.

* Manage non-conformance reports and drive the definition and implementation of corrective and preventive actions.

* Interpret electronic schematics and mechanical documentation to support design reviews, integration activities, and troubleshooting.

* Analyze and solve complex technical problems across RF, digital, and embedded domains in a structured and timely manner.

* Coordinate multidisciplinary teams and manage technical tasks effectively to meet project milestones and quality standards.

* Engage in hands-on technical work, including lab testing, debugging, and system bring-up, demonstrating strong initiative and ownership.

Essential Skills

* Broad expertise across multiple disciplines with a strong foundation in RF engineering.

* Proficiency in RF circuits and antenna design for radar and radio communication applications.

* Strong knowledge of digital electronics, including processors, FPGAs, and SoC architectures.

* Experience in the design and development of RF and electronic modules, including transmit and receive chains and RF subsystems.

* Experience developing FPGA-based processing elements and embedded systems.

* Hands-on experience with integration and testing of complex electronic systems.

* Hands-on experience with environmental qualification and EMI/EMC compliance.

* Experience in reliability engineering and electronic components engineering.

* Experience in requirements definition, derivation, and management with traceability to verification methods.

* Experience in preparing formal technical documentation covering requirements, design, and test activities.

* Experience in root cause failure analysis, non-conformance management, and implementation of corrective actions.

* Ability to interpret electronic schematics and mechanical documentation accurately.

* Ability to analyze and solve complex technical problems across RF, digital, and embedded domains.

* Strong initiative and motivation for hands-on technical work.

* Technical proficiency with FPGAs, microprocessors, microcontrollers, radio frequency systems, and digital electronics.

Additional

Skills & Qualifications

* Ability to coordinate multidisciplinary teams and manage technical tasks effectively throughout the project lifecycle.

* Strong organizational and documentation skills to support rigorous systems engineering processes.

* Effective communication skills to collaborate with engineers from different disciplines and present technical findings clearly.

* Motivation to work in a rapidly growing organization involved in large-scale radar modernization programs.

* Adaptability to work on both design activities and practical lab-based integration and testing.

Work Environment

This position is based in an office setting with standard hours from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The role involves minimal travel, allowing you to focus primarily on design, integration, and testing activities on site. The organization is moving into a brand-new facility in South Olathe, offering an updated and modern workspace designed to support advanced electronic and RF engineering, including laboratories and integration areas suitable for radar and radio communication systems development.
