Job SummaryThe Senior Civil Engineering Technician – Nuclear Power serves in a lead technical role supporting the development of high-quality engineering deliverables for complex Nuclear Generation infrastructure projects. This position applies advanced civil engineering knowledge to the creation and modification of site development plans, grading designs, and utility layouts using industry-standard design tools. The role also provides technical guidance, consultation, training, and oversight to technicians and engineering staff while supporting both conceptual and detailed design activities.
Job Description- Functions as a senior engineering technician, technical design specialist, and/or supervisor.
- Applies advanced technical expertise to solve complex design challenges within a specific engineering discipline.
- Contributes to the development of innovative engineering solutions.
- Uses digital tools and design software (e.g., CAD, BIM, 3D modeling) with standardized procedures to create, modify, and maintain technical documentation, drawings, and project deliverables.
- Provides consultation, training, and oversight to other engineering technicians to ensure quality, consistency, and compliance with project standards.
- Establishes and communicates appropriate design and graphic standards.
- Reviews project requirements to determine correct formats and deliverable content.
- Promotes quality and consistency across projects, groups, and sections.
- Reviews design inputs to ensure alignment and consistency.
- Ensures deliverables comply with applicable codes and standards.
- May contribute to continuous improvement of design guides, standards, and processes.
- May participate and lead process improvement and change management activities.
- Manages drawing control and maintains historical project records.
- Applies engineering principles and established design practices to complex designs.
- Exercises sound judgment in interpreting inputs and making deliverable-related decisions.
- Handles complex technical assignments and provides guidance to other professionals.
- Performs design calculations, material quantity takeoffs, estimates, and documentation.
- May review deliverables produced by others for quality and accuracy.
- May coordinate presentations, production design, and use of electronic design tools.
- May monitor production to ensure consistency, budget, and schedule.
- May program control systems or support plant start-up activities within area of expertise.
- Coordinates with other design groups to exchange information for design development.
- May support field activities as required.
- Communicates project design requirements, progress, and schedules.
- Responsible for assisting with identification of key client interests and drivers and may determine the key clients in some instances.
- Communicates client interests and drivers to project team members and develops approaches to accommodate these concerns.
- Assists discipline or department management in developing and communicating appropriate design standards and process improvement activities.
- Identifies and supports training and development needs for supervised personnel.
- Recognized for expertise in one or more areas and may be assigned special assignments depending on technical expertise.
- Assignments may involve solving a particular design problem or participating in a design team focused on completing an assigned project task.
- Makes presentations and conducts training classes within a specialized area of expertise.
- Typically a minimum of 11 years related work experience.
- Civil 3D experience.
- Micro Station experience.
- Bentley Open Plant Modeler experience.
- Advanced civil engineering and site development knowledge.
- Experience with grading and drainage design.
