The OpportunityThe Virtual Design & Data Solutions (VDDS) Staff Engineering Technician plays a key role in developing high‑quality engineering deliverables for nuclear infrastructure projects. The position supports the global nuclear program and involves advanced design of site development plans using Autodesk Revit, Bentley Micro Station and Octave.
Key Responsibilities- Functions as a senior engineering technician, technical design specialist, and/or supervisor.
- Applies advanced technical expertise to solve complex design challenges within a specific engineering discipline.
- Contributes to the development of innovative engineering solutions.
- Uses digital tools and design software (CAD, BIM, 3D modeling) with standardized procedures to create, modify, and maintain technical documentation, drawings, and project deliverables.
- Provides consultation, training, and oversight to other engineering technicians to ensure quality, consistency, and compliance with project standards.
- Establishes and communicates appropriate design and graphic standards.
- Reviews project requirements to determine correct formats and deliverable content.
- Promotes quality and consistency across projects, groups, and sections.
- Reviews design inputs to ensure alignment and consistency.
- Ensures deliverables comply with applicable codes and standards.
- May contribute to continuous improvement of design guides, standards, and processes.
- May participate and lead process improvement and change management activities.
- Manages drawing control and maintains historical project records.
- Applies engineering principles and established design practices to complex designs.
- Exercises sound judgment in interpreting inputs and making deliverable‑related decisions.
- Manages complex technical assignments and provides guidance to other professionals.
- Performs design calculations, material quantity takeoffs, estimates, and documentation.
- May review deliverables produced by others for quality and accuracy.
- May coordinate presentations, production design, and use of electronic design tools.
- May monitor production to ensure consistency, budget, and schedule.
- May program control systems or support plant start‑up activities within area of expertise.
- Coordinates with other design groups to exchange information for design development.
- May support field activities as required.
- Communicates project design requirements, progress, and schedules.
- Assists in identifying key client interests and drivers and develops approaches to accommodate these concerns.
- Identifies and supports training and development needs for supervised personnel.
- May be assigned special assignments based on technical expertise.
- Makes presentations and conducts training classes within a specialized area of expertise.
- Associate Degree in Drafting or an Engineering Design Related Technology.
- Preferably a Bachelor’s Degree in an Engineering Design Related Technology.
- Minimum 11 years of related work experience.
- Ability to complete pre‑employment onboarding requirements, including criminal background check, drug screen, and motor vehicle records search.
- Must satisfy citizenship requirements outlined in 10 CFR 810 to work on the global nuclear program.
- Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days of employment based on manager discretion and performance.
