Projects will vary in size and complexity, including root cause analysis, feasibility studies, FEL1‑3, AACE class 5‑3, EPC contracts, startup, and commissioning. You will work individually and as part of a team of subject matter experts in the Mechanical Equipment Group.
The power industry is the primary focus, with approximately 50% of time in power and 50% in oil & gas. Multiple projects—both small services and large‑scale EPC execution—will be supported concurrently.
Key Responsibilities- Critically analyze issues related to steam generation (Rankine boilers, HRSGs, auxiliary boilers), draft systems (, ductwork), and air quality control equipment (FGDs, ESPs, PJFFs, SCRs) to propose resolutions.
- Apply design codes (e.g., ASME Section VIII, Division I; NFPA 85, NFPA 497) and federal regulations (40 CFR 60, 75, 63) by navigating, interpreting, and applying code requirements.
- Develop technical specifications for the procurement of steam generation, draft, and air quality control equipment.
- Evaluate supplier bids, clarify exceptions and deviations, and level bids for award decisions.
- Coordinate with manufacturers to select technically acceptable design solutions.
- Review supplier drawings and documents for completeness, design acceptability, and conformance to specifications and contracts.
- Collaborate with other engineering disciplines to integrate equipment designs into overall projects.
- Attend factory acceptance tests, identify issues, and confirm equipment readiness for shipment.
- Support startup and commissioning activities.
- Perform design calculations using solid basic science and engineering principles.
- Write reports summarizing completed work and study findings for clients.
- Assist proposal efforts by estimating hours and drafting proposal documents.
- Interface with clients and lead project meetings.
- Present at technical conferences when appropriate.
- Mentor junior staff to develop engineering skills.
- Travel 10–25% of the time; some projects require higher travel, and international travel may be required for certain oil & gas projects.
- Experience in LNG or Offshore LNG projects.
- Experience in ammonia, urea, or fertilizer plants.
- Experience with coal‑fired power plants.
- Experience with combustion turbines, steam turbines, boilers, and HRSGs.
- Experience with the steam cycle and related water systems for power production.
- Experience with draft and air quality control systems for combustion of power fuels.
- Experience with auxiliary boilers for industrial processes.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, especially Excel, for calculations.
- Competency in technical writing; a writing sample is requested.
- Familiarity with industrial facility operations and general safety expectations.
- Exposure to other engineering disciplines (electrical, civil, structural, I&C, chemical) and project groups (construction, controls, procurement, document control).
- Experience with US EPA regulations (BACT, Four‑Factor, other analyses) for power plants.
- Experience with emissions regulations and demonstrating compliance via CEMS and EPA Part 60 methods.
- Experience with NFPA 85 and ASME Section VIII, Div 1.
- Mentoring skills to support junior staff.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to handle multiple simultaneous projects.
- Excellent organizational and time‑management skills.
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Mechanical Engineering.
- Minimum of 10 years of relevant professional experience.
- Licensed Professional Engineer in the USA and/or Canada.
- Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days based on manager discretion and job performance.
