Position Summary
We are seeking a Senior Mechanical Engineer to join our team in the Wilson, NC plant. This facility produces a variety of tires including passenger radial, light truck radial tread, and run‑flat tires, and employs more than 1,600 teammates. The Sr. Mechanical Engineer will research, plan, design, develop, and implement mechanical products and systems such as instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines and mechanical, thermal, hydraulic or heat transfer systems for production, transmission, measurement, and energy use.
Responsibilities- Lead the Safety Design Process, including Risk Assessment, Risk Mitigation, Dynamic Safety Testing, and Validation of Safety Systems.
- Oversee contractor work of technical trades, ensuring quality workmanship and adherence to plant/industry safety rules.
- Manage project lifecycle: define scope, develop budget and justification, prepare funds requests, procure supplies (RFQs, SAP ordering, budget tracking), oversee installation and testing, release equipment to production, and verify closing documentation and lessons learned.
- Collaborate with cross‑functional teams to understand scope, functional specifications, design requirements, and safety impact.
- Design mechanical safety systems and barriers, producing 3‑D CAD drawings and BOMs; work with vendors to acquire materials.
- Lead hardware assembly, fabrication, and the design, plan, fabrication, and installation of pneumatic, hydraulic, and conveying systems.
- Provide direction to cross‑functional teams during checkout, commissioning, and reliability activities; communicate project status to CFT and management.
- Coordinate with engineering disciplines and departments to ensure project success within technical scope, budget, and schedule.
- Estimate system design, material, installation, checkout, commissioning, and activation requirements; plan labor resources and project milestones.
- Develop proposals to capture future work on existing lines and lead mechanical projects through all phases, including design, fabrication, implementation, testing (FAT), commissioning, and daily operation.
- Minimum of 5 years of related experience and a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or a related field.
