This opportunity with Black & Veatch offers the chance to collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams within the Power Providers Market Sector, supporting Advanced Power Generation (APG) projects and building critical infrastructure for today’s and tomorrow’s challenges. Structural Engineering Technicians contribute to the design, analysis, and detailing of steel and foundation efforts, including foundation, steel, and platform models and drawings.
The Virtual Design & Data Solutions (VDDS) Senior Structural Engineering Technician plays a key role in supporting the development of high‑quality engineering deliverables for these complex structural infrastructure projects. Functioning in a senior technician capacity, this position performs technical tasks requiring advanced knowledge of structural engineering principles and practices, with a focus on creating and modifying structural models, drawings, and details using advanced techniques in industry‑standard design tools such as Bentley Open Buildings, Autodesk AutoCAD, and Micro Station.
Provides technical guidance, consultation, and training to other engineering professionals and technicians to ensure quality and consistency across project outputs. May supervise an assigned team of engineering technicians and support personnel by coordinating, overseeing, and guiding both conceptual and detailed design activities to ensure quality, efficiency, and alignment with project objectives.

Key Responsibilities- Functions as a senior engineering technician, technical design specialist, and/or supervisor
- Applies advanced technical expertise to solve complex design challenges within a specific engineering discipline
- Contributes to the development of innovative engineering solutions
- Uses digital tools and design software (e.g., CAD, BIM, 3D modeling) with standardized procedures to create, modify, and maintain technical documentation, drawings, and project deliverables
- Provides consultation, training, and oversight to other engineering technicians to ensure quality, consistency, and compliance with project standards
- Establishes and communicates appropriate design and graphic standards
- Reviews project requirements to determine correct formats and deliverable content
- Promotes quality and consistency across projects, groups, and sections
- Reviews design inputs to ensure alignment and consistency
- Ensures deliverables comply with applicable codes and standards
- May contribute to continuous improvement of design guides, standards, and processes
- May participate and lead process improvement and change management activities
- Manages drawing control and maintains historical project records
- Applies engineering principles and established design practices to complex designs
- Exercises sound judgment in interpreting inputs and making deliverable‑related decisions
- Manages complex technical assignments and provides guidance to other professionals
- Performs design calculations, material quantity takeoffs, estimates, and documentation
- May review deliverables produced by others for quality and accuracy
- May coordinate presentations, production design, and use of electronic design tools
- May monitor production to ensure consistency, budget, and schedule
