Black & Veatch is seeking a highly motivated Mechanical Engineer to design mechanical systems in water treatment and wastewater projects. In this role, you will have the opportunity to:
- Work collaboratively with various design engineering execution teams across the US and abroad
- Perform Mechanical System design for water/wastewater projects
- Perform engineering calculations to develop equipment and system performance parameters for sizing equipment
- Coordinate with equipment manufacturers to select the most technically acceptable design solutions
- Follow company and industry design practices in development of designs
- Develop engineering work products including Piping and Instrumentation Drawings (P&IDs), Mechanical arrangement drawings, and Equipment, Piping, and Valve specifications
- Review manufacturer's or contractor's submittals, data, reports, etc., for conformance with B&V criteria
The Mechanical Engineering Department is a global team delivering high‑quality design and services across sectors including water and wastewater. The Water/Wastewater Treatment team provides comprehensive solutions for drinking water, wastewater, industrial water, recycled water, and residuals.
Preferred Qualifications- Developing detailed project drawings and technical specifications
- Experience with equipment and systems used in water and wastewater treatment facilities, including:
- Pumping systems, blowers, aeration control valves, compressed air systems for pneumatic actuators, large bubble mixing, anaerobic digestion, heating water boilers, heat exchangers, and steel piping systems
- Material selection and sizing of piping systems and equipment
- Hydraulic principles related to water/wastewater facility design
- Bachelor's degree in engineering from an accredited program or equivalent engineering experience
- Minimum of 5 years related work experience
- Active engineering registration or licensure to support engineer of record (EOR) requirements for BV projects in applicable countries, and ability to support where necessary

Work Environment and Schedule- Typical office environment, with prolonged periods of sitting and computer use; focus and attention to detail required throughout the day
- Physical tasks during site visits, including crouching, grasping, and standing/walking for extended periods
- Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days of employment based on manager discretion, performance, and work assignments
