Staff Engineering Technician (onsite - Overland Park, KS)

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITES:
• Must have Civil3D experience along with Micro Station and Bentley Open plan Modeler. Ok if no nuclear experience. Ok if no Bentley experience, but the other software/exp is required, no exceptions)
• This opportunity with Client offers the chance to collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams within the Technology, Commercial & Industrial Market Sector, supporting Grid Solutions projects such as Substation and Overhead Transmission Line, while building critical civil infrastructure for today's and tomorrow's challenges. Civil Engineering Technicians contribute to the planning, design, and implementation of site development, including grading and drainage, erosion control, roadways, fencing, and underground utilities for these advanced industrial and commercial facilities.
• The Virtual Design & Data Solutions (VDDS) Staff Civil Engineering Technician plays a key role in supporting the development of high-quality engineering deliverables for these complex infrastructure projects. Under general supervision, this position performs technical tasks requiring intermediate knowledge of civil engineering principles and practices, with a focus on creating and modifying site plans, grading designs, and utility layouts using advanced techniques in industry-standard design tools such as Autodesk Civil 3D and Bentley Micro Station.
Provides technical guidance and may offer directions to other engineering professionals and technicians to ensure quality and consistency across project outputs.
• Functions in a project engineering technician capacity.
• Under general direction, supports engineering and design teams by developing and modifying technical deliverables.
• Apply foundational engineering principles and established design practices to create moderately complex design concepts and solutions.
• Utilizes digital tools and design software (e.g., CAD, BIM, 3D modelling) to create, modify, and maintain technical documentation, drawings, and project deliverables.
• Provides technical guidance and may offer directions to other engineering professionals and technicians to ensure quality and consistency across project outputs.
SKILLS AND ABILITIES
REQUIRED:
• MUST have Civ3d grading experience
• Applies knowledge of standards, systems, document control, departmental guides, applicable codes and CLIENT policies and procedures.
• May review project requirements and accurately determine the correct format and contents of the required deliverables.
• Proactively apply CLIENT Quality Program to deliverables. Demonstrates personal accuracy and supports continuous improvement and change management efforts.
• Reviews design inputs in order to ensure consistency. Assists to ensure deliverables are in compliance with the specific codes and standards suitable for the project.
• May apply basic engineering principles and established design practices in developing moderately complex design concepts and deliverables. Begins to apply judgment and make decisions with respect to deliverables and input interpretation.
• Capable of handling difficult technical assignments within an area of expertise and can provide technical guidance to other professionals.
• Performs design calculations, detailed material quantities and estimates, and records.
• May review the deliverables of others.
• May define work assignments and maintain schedules.
QUALIFICATIONS AND
EXPERIENCE:
• May program control systems or participate in other plant start-up activities associated with a specialized area of expertise.
• Coordinates with other design group personnel to review and exchange project information necessary for design development.
• May support field activities. Focuses on the needs of internal clients while utilizing an understanding of external client's main interests and drivers.
• Proactively seeks and shares knowledge of latest technologies and processes.
• May apply judgment and make decisions with respect to deliverables and input interpretation.

Education:
• Diploma or Certificate required. Associates or bachelor's degree in Drafting or an Engineering Design Related Technology preferred.
• Minimum Qualifications
• Typically, a minimum of 5 years related work experience.
