The opportunity is to collaborate with multidisciplinary project teams within the Governments & Communities (G&C) Market Sector, supporting Water and Industrial Water projects and delivering critical infrastructure for municipal and industrial clients. Mechanical (piping) professionals develop and modify piping layouts and models for water and wastewater treatment facilities, pump stations, and conveyance systems, coordinating system routing and interfaces with process equipment, structures, and underground utilities to ensure constructable and efficient designs.
Role OverviewThe Virtual Design & Data Solutions (VDDS) Assistant Engineering Technician plays a key role in supporting the development of high‑quality engineering deliverables for complex infrastructure projects. Under close supervision, this position performs technical tasks requiring basic knowledge of engineering principles, focusing on developing and updating 3D piping layouts and model‑based drawings using Autodesk Revit.
Key Responsibilities- Functions as a senior engineering technician, technical design specialist, and/or supervisor
- Applies advanced technical expertise to solve complex design challenges within a specific engineering discipline
- Contributes to the development of innovative engineering solutions
- Uses digital tools and design software (e.g., CAD, BIM, 3D modeling) with standardized procedures to create, modify, and maintain technical documentation, drawings, and project deliverables
- Provides consultation, training, and oversight to other engineering technicians to ensure quality, consistency, and compliance with project standards
- Establishes and communicates appropriate design and graphic standards
- Reviews project requirements to determine correct formats and deliverable content
- Promotes quality and consistency across projects, groups, and sections
- Reviews design inputs to ensure alignment and consistency
- Ensures deliverables comply with applicable codes and standards
- May contribute to continuous improvement of design guides, standards, and processes
- May participate and lead process improvement and change management activities
- Manages drawing control and maintains historical project records
- Applies engineering principles and established design practices to complex designs
- Exercises sound judgment in interpreting inputs and making deliverable‑related decisions
- Handles complex technical assignments and provides guidance to other professionals
- Performs design calculations, material quantity takeoffs, estimates, and documentation
- Reviews deliverables produced by others for quality and accuracy
- Coordinates presentations, production design, and use of electronic design tools
- Monitors production to ensure consistency, budget, and schedule
- Program control systems or support plant start‑up activities within area of expertise
- Coordinates with other design groups to exchange information for design development
- Supports field activities as required
- Communicates project design requirements, progress, and schedules
- Assists with identification of key client interests and drivers, and communicates those to project team members
- Identifies and supports training and development needs for supervised personnel
- Recognized for expertise in one or more areas; may be assigned special assignments
- Makes presentations and conducts training classes within a specialized area of expertise
- Associate Degree in Drafting or an Engineering Design Related Technology required
- Bachelor Degree in an Engineering Design Related Technology preferred
- Typically a minimum of 11 years related work experience
- Must complete pre‑employment onboarding requirements (background checks, drug screen, motor vehicle records search) in compliance with applicable laws and regulations
- Hybrid or flexible work options may be offered after the first 90 days of employment based on manager discretion, job performance and work assignments
Annual compensation ranges by state or jurisdiction:
- Colorado: $96,921 – $161,843
- Minnesota: $92,516 – $154,487
