HNTB Corporation is looking for a design engineer to join our Municipal Transportation Section in Overland Park, KS. The role offers exciting opportunities to design municipal roadways for local clients such as the City of Olathe, the City of Overland Park, and the City of Lenexa. Recent projects include the I‑35 & Santa Fe Street Interchange, the I‑35 & 119th Street Interchange, the 167th Street (Switzer to Antioch) project, and various Arterial Street Rehabilitation projects in Olathe, KS.
Responsibilities- Plan and distribute discipline‑specific work; adhere to schedules and budgets.
- Assist with marketing responsibilities, including proposal generation.
- Help develop scope of work and level of effort for projects and assignments.
- Oversee completeness and accuracy of project team’s work; mentor and guide the team.
- Coordinate technical aspects of projects with client counterparts and teaming partners at staff level.
- Collaborate closely with other disciplines on multi‑discipline projects.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Produce and modify design calculations, technical reports, engineering plans, and specifications for assigned projects.
- Consult with project managers to research, develop, calculate, design, and deliver solutions.
- Apply engineering techniques, procedures, and design criteria for projects of varying size and complexity.
- Leverage technical knowledge to address design‑related issues; interact with clients; complete tasks to meet project schedules.
- Develop conceptual and detailed designs and calculations using current drawing and technical tools, programs, and software.
- Mentor, train, and review the work of junior engineer staff; provide constructive feedback.
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering and 6 years of relevant experience, or
- Master’s degree in Engineering and 5 years of relevant experience, or
- PhD in Engineering and 4 years of relevant experience.
- Understanding of the impacts of decisions on technical design and work planning.
- Ability to coordinate work planning and design effectively across multiple technical disciplines.
- Demonstrated capacity to prepare high‑quality deliverables that are on time, within budget and scope.
- Master’s degree in Engineering.
- Eight or more years of relevant experience.
- Professional Engineer (PE) certification.
Kansas City, MO and Overland Park, KS (Sprint Parkway).
