Position Summary
This position reports to a Delivery Leader or Team Leader and is recognized as a technical specialist with an in-depth and advanced knowledge in a specific area(s) or discipline. The structural engineering role designs, develops specifications, estimates and collaborates with structural team members to complete projects in the public infrastructure and private industry markets across the country. The incumbent seals plans and specifications for projects and is a preferred team leader for the structural design team, supervising staff, developing team skills and managing workload and schedules.

Responsibilities- Acts as a technical specialist in a particular engineering area or discipline.
- Provides internal technical advice to project managers for proposals and client presentations.
- Collaborates with a project manager on planning including scope, concepts, strategies, task organization, effort estimates, resource identification and schedules.
- Assists in developing agreements for engineering services, including scope, fee structure, schedule and risk management provisions.
- Directs, manages and participates in production of project deliverables: preliminary studies, plans, cost estimates, design surveys, design plans, project status/review meetings, specifications, contract documents, bidding, contract award, construction administration oversight and quality monitoring.
- Provides input on monthly project accounting, time and expense charges, and communicates with clients to ensure satisfaction.
- Participates in ongoing client maintenance activities as appropriate.
- Reviews labor utilization and assignments of engineers and technicians.
- Fosters open communication, provides performance feedback and coaching, and offers performance information to leadership.
- Stays abreast of engineering trends and techniques, maintains professional licensure as required.
- Mentors team members and may analyze specific issues for efficient, cost-effective solutions.
- Interacts with equipment vendors, presents at conferences and trade shows, participates in standard specification processes, and may serve as a people manager/HR supervisor.
- Effective communication skills (verbal and written), excellent listening and reading skills, including proofreading.
- Effective problem solving, decision making, interpersonal, negotiation, analytical and critical thinking skills.
- Strong knowledge of highway design standards, DOT design policies, MUTCD, AASHTO Standards and related manuals.
- Ability to lead, train, mentor, collaborate, and maintain client and employee relationships.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook) and design software (Microstation, Geopak/Inroads, AutoCAD, Civil 3D). Knowledge of HEC-HMS, HEC-RAS or other stormwater design/analysis programs is preferred.
- Ability to adopt new technology and processes including Adobe, Bluebeam, Deltek Vision, and client relationship management software.
- Initiative, responsibility, flexibility, leadership, and good time management skills.
Bachelor’s degree in civil engineering or related engineering field required.
Experience8+ years in transportation engineering and P.E. licensure required. Must obtain professional licensure in the states required by the company as soon as possible.
Travel ExpectationsMust be able to travel in-state and out-of-state on occasion, typically 20% of the time, visiting other office locations, project sites, seminars or business meetings. Driver’s license with a clean driving record required.
